NW Ohio Water Races

Just putting some feelers out there to see who would be interested in getting UKC water races in northwest ohio. We have a nice underutilized pond at the Williams County CHA in Montpelier and I would like to get some races organized here. I think it would be a great way to get kids and families involved in the club and hopefully make some money for the club at the same time. If we can get enough interest I would like to have a few races every year. Let's hear from everyone in the area, I want pros and cons and maybe some tips from those that have put on these races in the past.

Wish You well with this !!! If I lived closer I would never miss a race !!! You also need to have practice/training races something like every week or every other week. This will help get new people started. Good luck!!!

Thanks for the reply, there will definitely be plans for practices, there are some registered water race dog guys that practice weekly now and we can practice with them for the time being.

when i was a kid we went family went everywhere to water races. it was big in the 70's. we had one dog win the little world championship. i believe it was in ohio but not sure. we had good dogs and my dad knew all the big time racers. when i started getting big enough to get the dogs off the tree it kind of dwindled down. or at least we quit going. good memories

That's what i'm talking about! I would love for today's generation to experience these things. I have a 10 month old son and I want him to grow up with those types of memories, seems like everybody is too busy these days to do that kind of family stuff.

Swimming the dogs is a good way to keep them in shape during the hot months when you may not hunt as much or for keeping show dogs in shape with out a lot of wear and tear on them.
Water racers sometimes tend to come and go a bit depending on their dogs that are good or maybe finish out to grand and then be awhile before they have another dog to compete with. Most enjoy water races if they have a competitive dog equal to the events but it can be costly trying to continuously have new dogs to play with.

Ya'll are way up in the tippy top NW corner!! It's a little far for us, but there's no telling where we may get a wild hair to show up at!! We haven't made it to 10 states in three years by sitting at home!!

Good luck on pulling it all together!!

Sounds good Eric, I have to work next weekend so I won't be at the hunt. I'll let you know when I get the ball rolling a little more.
