i would not hunt a female until the pups were good and weaned. you never know what could happen and with all the sagging she is bound to get cut up.

If it were me,

I would take her out and road her. Apparently, you live in town where you can't just let her out of the pen to run around the yard and stretch her muscles.

I've hunted them before when their pups were abut 3 1/2 weeks old. The pups should be fine for a couple of hours. The bad thing about hunting her would be she could hurt hear teats or something else could hapen to her.

AMEN! That is a rough one to fix. Hard on everyone involved.

Take her for a walk. Shell be wanting back in with the pups by the time you start back home.

Good luck with them! I love babies

I made that mistake once. It's best not to hunt them until after they have raised the pups and recovered from being pulled down. I had one break a leg hunting one time and the vet said that nursing takes a lot of calcium out of them.

My Dad told me of a neighbor guy back in the 1980's would take his english female hunting when she was still feeding pups! he would load them up into the trunk of his car an when his female came in from hunting he would open the trunk of the car an the female would jump in and feed the pups and then get out and go hunting again!!

Our female just spent 7 days in the vet for Mastits with out hunting not a fun thing to have to deal with! Had to bottle feed for 4 days and THANK GOD, my buddies dog took Screamer's pups (As she had a litter off our NITECH Male) or we'd still be bottle feeding. Plus she's at risk to cut or hurt her teats! I'd leave her up until she's dried up!

She's just bored...take her walking...take her for a ride and maybe even a short woods walk. She will be excited to return to her babies when she gets back. She's a dog that just had babies 3 weeks ago, not a machine. Her body needs time to heal...There are just way to many risk to be taken. Rather or not that you can keep her laid up during her puppy raising, should be taken into consideration before ever breeding.

My puppies are weaned completely at 4 weeks old. I have always hunted my females after 4 weeks. Never had a problem. They dry up 200x faster. I just cut them down to about 1/2 of what there pre-pregnant ration was, and hunt the fur off them. I hunt in the thick brush and briars. I also hunt them until about a week before they are due, so really they aren't that out of shape....
