If the dog is male or female and has pups that are registered or if the dog has any titles they cant have their name changed. Idk about if they have points or not....

john Duemmer - That was what I thought too, but I knew of a dog that had pups off of her, and her name was changed after my buddy sold her ! It might have been due to the one that bought her, really don't know, but it did mess up things in different KC's , !

Yes I have seen and had that in different KCs. Didn't make much difference to me though for some reason, Or maybe not a REASON I don't know.

Once a male or female receives a hunt or show title there names can not be changed. And once a male or female has one pup registered under them there name it can not be changed. Which ever one comes first it doesn't matter.

That might be true now, but back in the 70's and 80's it was done and I have papers to prove it. A female named Chestnut Creek Daisy had a litter of pups, I had 2 of them, and had registered them. The sire of the litter was GRNTCH House's Hank, out of NTCH House's Tom Tom and Hernsburger Sue. Daisy was sold, and later I bred my female , On the pups Pedigree it Listed Maggie mother as House's Daisy, her father was still House's Hank, it listed his sire as GRNTCH Houses Tom Tom and his dam was listed as House's & Trusty's Sue. Daisy sire was NTCH House's Chief, he was dead by the time she was bred in 76, Chief appeared on both my pedigrees as NTCH, But on the pups out of Maggie he was listed as GRNTCH House's Chief.

They just changed the part where you can't change their name after they have a litter of pups 4 or 5 years ago if that long.

One of the guys that use to work for UKC bought a female once that he thought was a Aunt to his male dog just to find out it was actually the mother to his male. Kinda messed up his breeding plans...

That's the main reason they made the change.

amazeagle, Lovis Burns is 'right on' with his response.

trackntreeman, a dog having been permanently nominated for the Performance Program may have their name changed so long as they meet the requirement for it.

UKC Name Change Policy:
A dogs name may not be changed once it has 1) earned a degree and/or 2) any litters registered. (offspring)
