Check Out SportDog's New GPS Combo System

SportDog has unveiled the new Tek 1 GPS + E-Collar Combo System.

Introducing the industry’s first combination remote training and tracking system: The TEK 1.0. For hunters who run hounds for lions, bears or hogs; beagles for rabbits; or pointing dogs for upland birds, the TEK 1.0 provides GPS tracking capabilities in a compact, handheld transceiver. No external antennas required! Get an instant fix on up to 12 dogs’ locations all the way out to 7 miles with just a glance at the backlit liquid crystal display screen.

The TEK 1.0 is available in two formats based on a single, unique transceiver.

Collar-receivers come as separate, compact modules that fit together on a single collar strap. All components feature SportDOG Brand’s DRYTEK design, so they are waterproof and submersible to 25 feet.

I wonder if this product will work as good as my Sportdog two dog system shock collar?

The first 3 didn't last over a year.....The fourth replacement broke at 80 days but the shipping invoice was printed a week before I actually received the collars so I was S.O.L

Oh, but don't worry SportDog will offer you another ( # 5 for those of you who are counting) replacement collar at a value....$100 more then what it retails for.

I have used the same Sportdog shocker for 4 years now. One of the collars stays on a dog 24/7 except to recharge. I guess some folks don't know how to take care of their equipment.

GPS

Does this have a map card like the Garmin? Something that shows the roads, creeks, rivers and ridges. Can it mark the truck location as well? Cause I know sometimes I need to know where I am more than I need to know where the dog is.

I see scheduled release date is 07-01-2011. Price for both E-collar and GPS sounds really good at $699.95. 7 mile range. It all sounds good. Now if Marshall comes out with theirs we, as houndspersons (politicially correct LOL) will have some choices which will be good. Can't wait.

I have a hard time believing that after all of the experience I have had with Sportdog products. But I will take your word for it.

Love the concept, always has been a quirk of mine to many collars and to much equipment for caring. Combine and eliminate is what I always say. Every since I first owned both tracker and a shocker together I've wished that their were somebody who would put the two together.

This Sport Dog looks pretty cool. Still as much as I like the idea I love my Garmin and Tri-tronics. I wish those two would collaborate and come out with something like this. On a second thought with all the speculation and anticipation of Marshall and their new GPS tracker something like this could be just what they need to get back on top once again. A Marshall and Tri-tronics would be something I'd like to see myself. Not saying that Sport Dog and this new tracker can't turn heads, they just might do well. I guess we'll just have to wait and see come July.

I'm glad to see the ideas floating around and hear that a few companies are starting to invest and put GPS technology to work. Ought to be some competition once again between Sport Dog, Marshall and Garmin the door should be wide open. Like I said though I'm pretty content with my Garmin but anyone who can top it deserves to have a second look.

No map card or mapping. You can mark 20 waypoints.

That would make it useless to me then. With my garmin I hardly ever click off the map page when looking for my dogs. I never use the dog tracker page at all.

20 is not enough for me. I mark every tree my dog shows me a coon in. I'm up over 400 waypoints and still marking away.

You can count me out since it don't have a map card. I wouldn't trust the shocking coller part. What happens if the systems stops working then you lose the shocking part. It would suck if you had a young dog running a deer and you can't stop the dog. I will stay with garmin and my tri-tronics.

I'm all for competition between the brands but no map and not being allowed to carry it on a cast because of the e-collar function makes it unusaeble to me.
As for that 7 mile range, I'll believe that when I see it. Garmin also claims 7 mile range.

Jim, not extactly true on the E-collar part as it depends on what system you run as it will be available in two formats - GPS only (Model TEK 1.0L) and dual GPS/Ecollar (Model TEK 1.0LT).
