Red Mange

Has anyone ever had a young dog that had red mange and when
he was all healed up continue to hunt him. did it come back when he was hunted hard or put under stress. I've got one and hes looking good now and I'm going to start hunting him what do you think will it come back. Thanks in advance.

I WOULD NOT LET THE MANGE STOP ME BUT YOU MIGHT HAVE TROUBLE GETTING A FRIEND AND HIS DOG TO GO.

had one i cleaned up when he was young and never seen it again.
his sister however did not fare as well..
both made top hounds and im glad i had the chance to hunt him.
he died at only 8 yrs old and the vet said it could be from the way i treated the mange when he was young..
it was feb in mich and he was no more then barely started.
i had 2 options.
mitaband
ivoemac
i figured mita band baths and returning him to the freezing weather would probally kill him anyway.
i chose ivoemac 1 cc a day for 50 days..
if i had it to do over he would have lived in the house..lol

seems like a purty heavy dose of ivermec. i gave it once a week, and thought that may be to harsh.

red mange

Had one with red mange used ivomec and antibiotic to clear him up, its been two years and no problems. Vet told me keep his immune system strong and the dog healthy and you should not have any problems. red mange is not contaigous.

the biggest problem i have, is when the young dogs will carry ice chunks in there dog house and it melts. then there box gets wet inside.. the older dogs don't seem to bother. but they keep there box dry.

immune system

I was told to feed high quality food, and make sure to keep immunizations current. Any infection, sickness, injury, have the ability to compromise the immune system which may lead to reoccuring mange. A lot of good information online just google red mange.

Red Mange

The treatment for thirty days is right. We had a female at 6 months that had it. Females are hard to keep clean once treated due to heat cycles bringing down their immune system. The problem is the dogs immune system can't keep the red mites under control. The vet stated that all dogs have them on their body it is only a problem in a dog with a weak immune system. The problem is that it is heriditary and the dog that has it will pass it on if bred. It was a long time ago for us and the vet put the dog to sleep.

I had a young male get it. I used ivomec and burnt motor oil. He was good to go. Never flared up on him again for the 2 yrs I owned him.

mabe it was a cc a day for 30 not 50? its been a long time ago.
i know it took a whole bottle.
also may as well if the dog turns out spaye or nuder..
they will pass it on. the immune system is the key.
it isnt susposed to be contagious?? like i said i never seen it again.
and sure was glad for the time i had with that dog.

genes

Weak immune system is bad genes more times than not. Cull and move on, if that is the case. I have seen it show up with tight breeding before.
