shot dogs?

Suppose you were hunting one night with 2 redbone pups under a year old and an older redbone pup trainer. You hear them all strike so you sit back to figure out which way they are going to work this track. Well, they begin working further out away from you so you tighten up to them. You reallize they are getting closer to the other road than you so you run to your truck to go get them, then all of a sudden you can't hear them anymore.

An hour passes and you hear the 10 month old male open up twice followed by BAM!, BAM! (dog squall), BAM! I haven't heard or seen the dogs in 3 days now. I have never had to worry about them not coming back to the house when hunted within 2-3 miles of here.

The night of the shots, I drove up to where I last heard my dogs and there was only 1 house with lights on and he is the only one that said he heard them that night. But somehow he said he heard them 1/4 mile away while watching tv inside (little fishy?)

What would you do?

Contact local law enforcement or game warden. If the neighbor did shoot your dogs that's cruelty in my state, amoung other things.

I would get a hold of an attorney and see what my options are. In the meantime I'd keep my ears open, and ask around about mr. tv watcher. His story sounds fishy to me also.

The only advice that I have for you is to look for your dog, but make sure you have permission because that was a key factor in my court case. The man that shot my dog did not get any criminal charges because they spelled the Sheriffs name wrong on the report that was taken.

You should have called when it happened and not wait three days.
In this period of time the remains of your hounds could have been removed from the area and there will be no evidence, and no smoking gun. In other words, your situation is pretty near hopless.
Sorry to hear of your loss.
