You never know about the shotgun seasons. The deer are usually spookier the 2nd. The weather can be pretty miserable either one though.

You don't get any better hunting than in Southwest Iowa. I could name about 10 different bucks that were over 180 inches taken in that very area this year and those were just buddies or friend of my buddies. I live 20 minutes from Corning. I hunt 2nd season just to make the season longer. It is all personal preference really. Some years the deer start 2nd rut during 2nd season and definately into it by the late muzzleloader season.

Rance I have hunted both and am planning to try to go back next year I personally think the first is better saw more deer and not as spooky. I think I remember counting like 300 deer in one day it was ridiculous. However I killed a bigger buck on the second hunt just didn't see the deer that I saw on the first hunt give me a call if u have any questions. Evan

All these deer hunting shows are killing all types of hunting in this state.

Never ask a man what kind of dog he has. If he has a hound he'll tell you, if he does not, you don't want to shame him by asking.

Because all these outfitters are buying the land and if you even look or drive by thier property they are calling the sherriff or game warded.

I wish every Iowa hunter wouldnt buy a deer license for 3 years. Then the DNR would see where there source of income is coming from. YOUR AVERAGE JOE DEER HUNTER like myself.

Rance, didnt mean to hi-jack your post. sorry.

If you can get in on land that dont get hunted first season 2nd can be really good. The southern part of the state more so then us up here on the mn border. This year we had several feet of snow to deal with and makes for some awfull walking conditions. I wish I knew how many of the trophys killed on these shows are free ranging wild deer. on all these hunting shows the deer have big bald spots on there backs. I have never seen one in the wild like that. I have a buddy that says they use pour on for cattle to worm these bucks to make them healthy for better antler groth. Mabe he is smoking something he shouldnt be but I dont know.
