Spring and Summer Hunters

With the warm weather approaching, are you guys planning on doing any warm weather hunting? I have never hunted during the summer/ warmer months for my fear of gators in SC; not for my safety but the dogs. Any tips on hunting in warmer weather would be appreciated.

From now until mid may is about my favorite time of year to run dogs. The summer months are tough with the heat and bugs and thickness of the woods, but it isn't that bad up here most nights. Things I do is dress as light as possible while keeping every inch of my body covered, freeze gallon jugs and bungee them in the dog box to keep the dogs cooler and have plenty of water for the dogs and me to drink. Other than that its just like the fall....cut them loose and hope for the best.

I HUNT A LOT MORE IN THE SUMMER TIME THAN I DO IN THE WINTER. STARTING PUPS OR KEEPING THE OLD DOGS IN SHAPE

stay away from know gator areas, watch your feet, have water available, and go hunting.

Well youngwalker I hunt around a lot of gators an all also. But the way I lol at it is if a dog sits in a pin an gets fat an unhealthy during the summer he could very well die in the summer just Latin in the pin. So I would rather take the chances an let the dog hunt an enjoy its self rather than sit in a pin locked up. I mean maybe I look at it the wrong way. As long as u give him water between each drop the heat should not bother him as long as u hunt him in it two or three nights a week. Dont lay one up an exspect to only hunt him once every two weeks in the summer though. That will kill him.

I enjoy spring hunting alot. Sweatshirt weather is nice. I don't like summer hunting as much....late june through late august can be tough, plus, in our part of the state of Virginia, we are not allowed to chase game in June or July.......so we really don't get to go anyway.

WE CAN RUN OUR DOGS HERE ALL YEAR LONG AND KNOCK THEM OUT 8 MONTHS A YEAR. WHEN IT'S SUMMER TIME I TAKE A BREAK BETWEEN EVERY TREE FOR WATER AND A COOLING OFF. IF IT'S REALLY HOT ON THE WEEKEND I HUNT EARLY MORNING BEFORE SUNRISE UP UNTIL THE SUN STARTS TO SHOW AND IT IS KIND OF FUN LOOKING AT COONS WITHOUT A LIGHT.

I hunt year round except for March and April when we have to shut down. Gators, cottonmouths, rattlesnakes and all. Its been in the seventies plus for a month now. I try to train at least one pup a year.
