 | ALERT Texas dogs over 20 lbs. targeted HB 998: Targets All Breeds Weighing 20 or More Pounds & is on the Move
HB 998 is breed specific legislation because it targets all breeds (including mixed breeds) that weigh 20 pounds or more. The proposed law requires owners of these dogs to buy $100,000.00 of dog insurance and your pet must be kept in a “secure enclosure” which is meant for dogs that have been legally declared dangerous. If you have your dog outside of this enclosure it must be on a leash in the immediate control of the handler, so these dogs can never be off lead for any purpose (dog parks, agility, tracking, rally, obedience, dog racing, hunting, police work, etc.). This is a very bad bill for dog owners and Texas Dogs.
