Rule question

4 dog cast, all dogs struck in. Dogs tree a 125, b 75, c 50, and d 25. 3 min in dog c leaves and is heard 75 ft to the right and is minused. Dog c then returns to the tree before the 5 min are up. What tree points does dog c receive?

25 (Cs original 50 points wouldn't be available again until tree is scored and all points are open)

Well, yeah...he gets the 50 he had as minus points and goes back in for 25. Which of course could end up minus, plus or circle. So...depending on how the tree was scored he gets a total tree points of either: -25 {-50 and +25}, if the coon is seen...-75 if the tree is slick or has off game...or -50 if the tree is circled. Again, that is total tree points for this tree depending on how it's scored.
Dogs do not advance in points on a tree if that is what you are asking...he left, as Lenhart says, he has to come back in for the next available. All four were declared treed, so next is 25.

Yep, that is correct...tree is closed. So it depends what was seen or not seen in the tree how he gets scored.
Good catch dandogs!!!!!

I took it off tree minus Rule 4 i. Another rule that is used wrong many times. Many times the dogs are moved up when dog leaves. Or time left on the 5 min. is continued and dog is given 25. As I posted on the other thread just trying to keep things lively.
I sometimes reread the Advisors and rule book when I'm bored. I got (stuck) to be MOH on Friday night of the MN State Ch. Sept. 11. Purina hunt so got to be on my toes, them Purina boys can be tough. LOL!

I totally agree, there sure are plenty of rules that get bent to an advantage or guys just plain don't know. I think, based on what I have seen over the years, that outright rule bending cheaters were worse 20 years or so ago. These days what I am seeing is confusion more than anything. I don't believe the rules are too complicated...in many cases guys go with what they were told initially and if incorrect they still stick to it until they learn it the right way. That is the biggest reason I like rules questions on the forums...the more controversial the more we can all learn.
