Ukc?

I have a five month old lab that is registered with the AKC. My question is, why should I register with the UKC and if I do will it be breaking any AKC "laws". I am new and ingnorant to all of this and any info would greatly be appreciated.

You are not ignorant! No way. Someone once told me that asking questions is a sign of intelligence. Only those that think they know everything are truly ignorant. And you know what? I've found this to be true.

Now to your question. Why should you register your lab with UKC? Because we are the world's largest working dog registry, because we care about our customers, because we have the finest working dog program - The Hunting Retriever Club which is far more respected than any other program. Because you have a versatile breed and you need to be here where the "Total Dog" is important. And no, it won't hurt your AKC status one bit. The dog will become more valuable because it is dual registered.
