Pup Hunt?

Looking at putting on a pup hunt, has anybody did anything like this? It obviuosly cant be a sanctioned hunt but im looking for some ideas.

Right now we got some ideas as a 30-50$ entry for dogs 24 months and under.

The problem with pup hunts is always the same, how do you verify the ages.

I agree a pup at my house ends at about 8 or 9 months but kinda retarded to make a hunt for 9 months and younger!

maybe try 15 or 16 month old as the cut off date.

I know some of those two year olds have been around the block, and prolly not fair to the guys huntin 12 or 13 month olds in the same cast, unless you do like the coyote hunt pup hunts, where you run a young class and on a different night run an old class

Young class is usually 10 months and 29 days or younger, and the old class is 15 months 29 days or younger. you could adjust this to a 16 month and younger, than a 24 to 16. or 18 or whatever seems fair.

Joesph thats what im trying to figure out what would work the best for ages I to agree 24 months can be a little to old for a pup hunt but on the other hand were in MN and it be a miracle to see 15 dogs there,I origanly thaught bout tryin to split up 16 months and younger and 16 to 24 months but not sure if the 6 months age will make a difference

Jesse,
If your age cut off is 24months and you are in an area with low number of dogs, there probably isnt much you could do...bout the only thing is divide into two age classes but remember the numbers will be low....If you are looking to try to maximize number of dogs/pups obviously you are going to have to increase the age to 36months and younger with a couple classes...If you want to strictly keep the age of the pups down then of course the number of pups/young dogs decreases...Personally I like PKC's old way of dividing the pups/young dogs up....under 36months (senior pups), under 24 months (junior pups) under 12months (baby). JUST DO IT LIKE THIS.

NOTHING UNDER 6 MONTHS OR OVER 2 CAN ENTER.

CLASSES DIVIDED UP LIKE THIS:

PUPPY-6 MONTHS TO 1 YEAR

JR-1 YEAR TO 1 1/2 YEARS

SR-1 1/2 YEARS TO 2 YEARS

SIMPLE AS THAT. THAT WAY, EACH DOG IS BEING HUNTED WITH DOGS THAT SHOULD BE ABOUT THE SAME IN STAGES. I KNOW THERE WILL BE SOME MORE ADVANCE AND MORE SLOWER, BUT IT EVENS THE PLAYING FIELD FOR EACH DIVISION.

I like the idea, and like Christy's breakdown as well. That seems to be the most fair way to keep them close to each age and experience.

good idea Jessie, don't worry about how many show up at 1st. you have to start somewhere and it will grow from there.
