Lay'em up.

This is the time of year alot of wide hunting dogs end becoming road pizza.

I had a real nice young dog get killed a few years ago.

Seems like I find myself staying in much more in December.

My hunting partner had a real nice walker gyp last season that had no revers. I told him it was only a matter of time before she would end up road kill. I advised him to lay her up until the weather broke.

a week or two later, I got a call and he couldn't believe she was hit on the road.

If they are crossing roads and coon aren't moving---Lay'em up.

I haven't been out as much as I should but my walker has yet to slick tree in this cold, wind, and snow. Either been a den or a coon in short order. Every coon I have shot out in the last 3 weeks has been off a den.

I may not know anything about coonhunting, but I know one thing. NO MATTER WHAT, there is somebody on the message board that you never met that can tree coon in any imaginable condion and do it on a regular basis.

I'm telling you, some of these dogs would find the last living coon on noah's ark in the flood. Just amazing you never hear of them.

I'm from Illinois but its kind of the same way here coons haven't moved real great in the past couple weeks. We caught 18 on Dec.10th and lately its just been 5 or 6 here and there. Thanks to the snow its been fairly poor. Im sure it will get better soon, at least i hope! But either way i think we all know that if the coons arent moving there is no track to run, no matter whos dog it is

the past week here in ne pa has been extremly cold, little windy. But we've been doing ok, mostly cold trails that go 2-4 hundred yards and are genrally ended with dens. we've treed 5 or 6 on outside last few night witch is not great but lt's somthing. i tihnk their coming down to strech their legs then going back to bed , i'm heading out in a half hour or so and gonna the bottom of a big hollow.

I agree with the fact that there isnt as much to feed on. With the dry fall farmers had alot more time to open up fields which left alot less for coons to feed on. The few corn and milo fields that havent been worked are definately the hotter spots.
