Nice place, good hunting ,an good people works for me.Had a good time at the '08 zones there, should have good guides an plenty of coon.It took a single cast win of 500+ or better to get in at the zones.Good luck to everyone this year!

Mr. Clean

Pretty sure he came from the mountains of North Carolina. Big D went to Tn and won the world. The quick female went to Tn and she is from Iowa. The reason they keep them up north is because everyone has a pretty fair shot of being put in coons and doesn't half to have the luck of drawing out a good guide. I used to live in Eastern Ky ( Letcher county which borders Va) and there where times it would take you two hours to get the dogs rounded up and if it was a den tree than your done. Got to have plus points. I see where your coming from but its better to have more coons than less. If you got a good ole mountain dog, he can hang with northern dogs just like the good northern dogs can hang with the mountain dogs. They will be some better than others and at the end those normally make up the final four no matter where your at. KNowing Ukc, they just don't want to travel very far from home. Just Kidding. lol.

With this post you're pretty much saying my dog or dogs from the South can't tree more then a coon or two in a 2 hour cast in thick coon. So you want the advantage by making them work harder then they normally do/

The whole point of a coon hunt is to see which dog can tree the most coon with the fewest mistakes NOT to see which dog can go the farthest and maybe luck out and tree one or two.

Most work all year getting tuned up, rqe's, zones and finals and then have at least 1 late round alone and maybe another if nessasary to get into the final four . With all that why would anybody schedule and put on a hunt where they haven't any coon or at least enough to support a good size hunt. I've never heard anybody say they haven't a good amount of coon in Ohio.

I don't think that it has anything to do with how many coon there are in a certain location. It is not about the dogs. It is all about how flat is it and how far do the handlers have to walk! A handler with a good dog does not care whether he drops him in thin coon or thick coon. All he cares about is how far does he have to walk and how steep is it. They will never have the finals in Virginia or Eastern North Carolina and it doesn't have anything to do with the coon population.

Geez Richard, they just had it in Rogers, Tn two years ago and I doubt it gets much higher or steeper anywhere east of the Rockies than that. I agree that flat ground makes darn site better hunt in thick or thin coon but UKC doesn't seem to care if you gotta climb to your dog. It's not like Kellam is going up there to handle that dog.

Kellam? Ha, I heard that AG had to go along on the Final cast to take pictures and he said that they would never have it in those hills again. Rogersville, Tn only has hills/ridges. Va and Eastern North Carolina have mountains. Todd and Allen personally went down to Rogersville to check out the terrain themselves before they would approve the Finals being held there. They told everyone that they were checking out the "facillities". But we all know that they were measuring how tall those hills were. The only questions that I heard before the hunt were "How high are the hills?" No one was asking how many coons that they had. Didn't the winner get sent down there a month ahead of time to get used to the terrain? Didn't he have a handler from that area? One of the other dogs/handlers in the final four was from that area also.

Well heck lets make it fair to everyone and hold it right here in "central" Florida (real south). It is plenty flat, the weather will be beautiful, the leaves will still be on, you can draw thin or thick coon depending on your guide, and everone can come early and make a vacation out of it.
