My husband and I were camping overnight at Natchez State Park in Southwest Mississippi on Tuesday the 30th of November, 2010. While at the park office on Wednesday morning we noticed a beautiful little black and white long-haired dog (like a sheep dog or a sheltie) hanging out near the front door. He (or she - I was not able to determine the sex of the dog) was well-kept and seemed to be waiting for someone and we thought he might belong to a camper, or perhaps to one of the staff as there was a dish of water beside the building.

As we walked around the grounds surrounding the office, enjoying the beautiful day and the lake, the little dog followed us at a distance. We tried to coax him to come up to us and let us pet him, but he seemed quite wary and had his tail between his legs. We checked with the ranger in the office and learned that he has been hanging around the office since about mid-November. I was glad to hear that they have been feeding him. I wondered if he might have wandered away from a campsite and gotten separated from his owner. I shuddered to think that someone might have abandoned him.
