Got a question need help

I need help i got a 2 year old blue tick with ukc and pkc papers that has the background to have hunting blood in her. she was given to me as payment on some money i loaned my cousin and she is trailing a coon fine she goes crazy on a caged coon.... she even tracks and hunts on her own, but when she trees she bawls and chops twice and then drops off the tree. she then gets to a near by tree and does the same then goes back to nose on the ground. I turned out a fresh coon on her tonight and she done the same thing... I dnt knw why she could be doing this... any explanitation... she has hunted by herself and with other dogs and she does the same or either sits on her butt while the others tree then get s up and nose back to the ground

If you see her do it, is the coon up there or not? Could be worse. she could stop and tree where there aint no coon.b

Sounds like a dog you don't have to worry about giving a little praise to on the tree. A couple pats on the side and tell them good dog has worked for me...

re dog need help

i have done all the above but i cnt get to her in time to tie up to the tree she doesnt stay long enough for me to grab a hold of her... i have praised her when she doing right and i dnt get on her as much when she is doing wrng she is way afraid of a switch for sure she trees the coon like 3 out of 7 times in the tree it ran up but she will tree different trees around the one he is up just like she does the tree the coon is up in... she is great else wise she just might need more work with treeing which i am doing everytime i get a caged coon...

tie her up as soon as you can get to the tree, if that doesnt work tie her back an give the coon to the other dogs while she watches, that will make her snap

I mainly hunt her by herself dnt have the time or money to buy another dog that is hunting or needs to be trained going to try and turn her out more and more whenever possible and just tie her to the tree when she trees and shoot them out majority of the time cause where I live aint that many coons in our little patch of trees. Not many places I can turn out because of greedy people wanting money for someone to hunt and help them out with the coon problem they have.

Sounds to me like someone has been playing with her on a caged coon getting her to tree it. And when you take her to the woods she is looking for it and she cant see it but can smell it trying to tree by sight. The worst thing you could ever do is show a caged coon to a dog now that is my opinion.

I think that at first the guy who had her b4 me did that i turn the coon loose fro mthe cage and let him get head start and then turn her loose after he has gotten out of sight..... and she trails and trees him but doesnt stay on the tree... she has hunted with other dogs and she is always circling the tree when the others tree and she use to sit down at the tree on her butt and bark got her out of that problem now got another one lol

Over the years I have found that good hunters have good hounds; these may be young dogs they raised, dogs they lbought and reworked or whatever. Irregardless, they are always packing a good consistant hound, and they usually do well in the hunts too. Find this guy in your area, introduce yourself and tell him your problem; if he is willing to hunt with your dog and help you diagnos the situation; then perhaps you can fix the dog. If not, you are probably wasting your time, short of a miracle. JMO Tom

you should have let her bark treed sitting on her butt. that aint a problem, it is good thing. you may have confused her when you messed with her style of treeing. she will stay out of trouble with aggressive dogs that way. just keep hunting her, even blueticks can make good hounds....LOL

Truthfully I think she learned from another dog to get up on the tree and she just started doing it on her own i thought about it after you said it and that would of been a good thing with agressive dogs for her to sit on her butt... I turn her out about every night i can do it and some nights i just turn her out in the woods so that she can run around and maybe strike something more time in the woods would be good for her.

That is your problem. Sitting on her butt treeing was not a problem. That is as perfect tree dog as you can get. Weather she is on the tree or not bring her to the tree, tie her up, pet her up REAL good and shoot it out. When you hunt with other dogs tie her back so she can see but not touch and shoot it out to the other dogs.
Then when she goes back to treeing and staying there don't worry about her body posture. Let her sit on her but and tree. She will stay out of trouble that way and she is a soft dog and doesn't need to be up on the wood to get bit, pushed or fell on.
