Amish

Well had my mind changed today.Went and seen the Amish guy that bought the property nextdoor to us.Of course I had my 2nd thoughts. But after a few minutes of talking. He gave me permission to coonhunt on his land.So now in one big block he has 600 acres. He said hunt it all season long if I want to.He didn't go off with the deer hunting thing most of them do.He just said follow the 6PM rule.So it was a goodday today.

There are good and bad Amish, just as there is in all people. I'm VERY lucky to live in an area where it is mostly Amish and lotsa land open to us to hunt. Never had any tell us no and no time for in and out either. I live on a half mile of dirt road and have 3 Amish families that live on it with us. Them folks KNOW how to cook and bake and they treat you like family if they like you. The ONLY thing that bugs me is coming up on them while responding to a EMS or fire call, they scare the crap outta, specially at night! Mine are all white toppers, what color tops are yours?

I occasionally coon hunt with some Amish. One Amish guy has a dog box on the back of his buggy. Around here, some of the best hunting is on Amish land. I am good friends with some Mennonites also. I like good, honest, hard working folks.

That too, I know and see a lot of. Can't own a car, will pay for someone to take them where ever, even just 5 miles from their home. Some around here have phones and cell phones now and some don't. The one's that don't have them, will walk out and ask to use ours, which we left them. They use solar panels to collect electric and run their stuff that way. They use propane to heat their houses. I agree that they seem to be deceptive in their practices, but they are still good neighbors.

Now here is one for you....What is bed dating???

you can keep em all, they are the biggest bunch of poachers around, nothing but a bunch of hypocrites, and there so called menonites you can keep them to, im sure there is a few good ones out there i havent found one yet, and let me tell you a lot of em own construction business's, lets just say i wouldnt pay them to build my dog houses let alone something i would live in. i dont have anything good to say about em, they play on this role that they are innocent and honest good people, BS its a crock havent met an honest one yet

And it was an amish man that shot our dogs for chasing a coyote on land he DID NOT own

I've hunted with alot of aumish in my area and have gone to some big party's they have thrown. There are some real dirty backstabing ones that I have drawn in hunts two of them was so called freinds, They can be as crooked as anyone else. The good thing most of them don't care to let you hunt on there land, around here anyway's. I do have a few that I call good reliable friends and they are straight up as anyone around.

You all must have some different ones then us. Bed dating is when a young man and girl are dating, they lay in bed and 'talk'. There has been quite a few 'shot gun' weddings out of season and babies born 'early' because of it. I'm sorry, you can say what you want to in the negative about the Amish, but I would NEVER give up my Amish neighbors! When I was sick, they came over and cooked for my kids, fed my dogs and went and got food for us. When our roof needed repaired, they were the first ones here to fix it because hubby was in another state. We butcher with them every year and we eat great. I was invited to a church service with them and had one of the little girls tell me what was being said the whole way through. I have been to their weddings, OMG! The food is abundant and awesome. My Amish neighbors were the first ones to come to us after our house burnt down. They brought us food, quilts and other brand new bedding and dishes, etc. I helped deliver one of their babies over the winter and you would have thought I was God to them. Let me ask you this....Other then the excommicated amish dude, how many of you have ever seen an Amish woman with their hair down and in their night clothes? Both hubby and I have been invited into their house when they are like that. That is true trust and friendship to me!

Now there are ones here that are ignorant, rude, smelly, evil, stealing SOB's. I just don't bother with them! There is good and bad in all people, I'm just so glad I have the good bunch for neighbors!

Plus, I learned a lot of PA Dutch from them and know enough if someone is talking about me or my family and can floor them when I answer them in dutch. Priceless!

My Amish Friend...

I met the only Amish guy I ever seen at SEWDays this year,he needed a ride on our cast and nobody was offering him one,so I told him to jump in the CAR with me.I bet I asked him a 1000 questions about being Amish and he answered all of them laughing,we had a good hunt and after it was over me and him kept up with each other,we both hunted mostly alone we would call each other on the way to the woods and every time our dogs treed,he always beat me on coons cause he was in Indiana lol but we did this almost nightly for about 6 months until I lost his number, pretty cool dude wish I knew how to get in touch with him but I don't no how,If anybody knew the 3 Amish guys from Indiana that came to walker days this year in NC pm me.
