Even if you hate the Garmin............

Even if you hate the Garmin Astro you should love them for driving the price of the beep beeps into the ground. Checkout the vendors board. One vendor has brand new Tracker Maximas that track everything from 216-221 with collars for $500. That is less than half what they cost before the Garmin came out.

I got mine for 475 with a colar about six month ago. Erwincomp.com. The garmin might not have great range but you can move closer to pick em back up. It saves you alot of hard walking, and you can figure out best way to get to the dogs.

How much cheaper can they be. The GPS unit alone that the Astro 220 is based on runs around 300$ or more. Add in a collar and the chargers, case, and you are looking at around 500 which I consider to be a great deal.

I cant see anyway Marshall or anyone else can come up with a tracking system as good or better without the price being a couple hundred or more higher than the Garmin.

id say if someone came out with another one it would give garmin a little comp, which isnt going to hurt anything was all i was getting at

Garmen,

my friend has one and it seems his is the exception. Its range is like two miles at times, and its sometimes throws a ? when in deep cover but it does not stay long.I like my beep, beep, and the range on it succeeds the garman about 7miles in our territorry, but being able when most trees are made withn a mile,to see what side the creek or river their on is a plus.

I HATE THAT the price has drop knowing I paid $800 a year ago.
I use a garmin in my truck, the maps of the roads, even dirt, show me how to get to them along with my tracker.Just not firm yet enough to run one on our hounds yet.

I never went for that Garmin Fad, I have been using the same ole Tracker Maxima Duo, with two L&L collars for years.
I have not had a minutes trouble out of the Tracker, or the Collars.
Never lost a hound with them, so I figured that was good eneough for me.
I just hope the Garmin dosent put them out of business, If the price gets so low, that they cant make eneough money to make a living, they will close their doors.

Josh, Son,
I have had to use my ole Beep Beep to find the hounds for my friends eneough times to know, that I dont need to trust a Garmin with a collar that will go dead in a day or less.
if you like them, more power to you, they are just not reliable eneough for me to trust in the field.

If they could come up with a Duel Collar, that used both Satalite, and Radio signal, that has a 5 thousand hour battery, I will get one of those.

I'm not so sure I like that Garmin drove down the price of the beep beep gear. Less than a year before I got a Garmin we bought 4 Marshall PowerMax Collars (the best beep beep collar out there IMO).
I haven't strapped a beep beep collar on one of my dogs for nearly 18 months.
I've seen what used collars are going for and I figure I couldn't get much out of these used Marshall PowerMax collars so now they just ride around in the truck.
I shouldn't sold them as soon as I switched to the Garmin. I know I'll never go back to using them anyway.

I had a customer call and needed a new hand held to replace his.. Just the hand held was $400.00 !!!

It doesn't matter about the price, when a new GPS systems comes out, people will buy.. Its human nature, we've got to have the latest and greatest !!!

Richard, I think the beep beeps are destine for the museum. Ten years from now they will be just as good as they ever were.....if you can find one.

Im sure the guys that manufacture the beep beep systems know that tha writing is on the wall, and it probably wont be long before we see some competition for the garmin. Anyone hunting coondogs that cant keep track o them with a garmin probably needs different dogs, or to sit down and read the manual.

I guarantee the vendor paid more than $500.00 for this system. It doesn't take a genius to figure that you can't stay in business selling merchandise for less than it cost. But don't worry, pretty soon we'll be able to call China and get what we want. They'll have to ship it to us for free because none of us will be working.

One Thing To Remember

F&L, Wildlife , and the other beep beep company's are local people that gave the coon hunters their first tracking system.
I wouldn't be afraid to call any of them and ask for a unit to be given as a prize for a youth hunt...

I wounder if Garmin would give up a system for a kid ?

Just don't forget about the others, at least when ya call you get to talk to someone within 5 min, not choose 1,2,or 3 to talk to a representative...................

this fall will be the first season virginia deer hunters have had the garmins in any kind of large numbers and i can tell ya when they are working its gonna be like shooting fish in a barrel when the deer hounds are wearing them.they are gonna cause all kinds of problems with knuckleheads running the roads shooting bucks from the roads and host of other problems, mark my words in five years they will be illegal for bear and deer hounds hunters in virginia.
