"Is Marshall Radio coming out with a GPS Combo Tracking System? If so, when?"

Here's the latest update from Dave Marshall:

"As the head of product development at Marshall Radio Telemetry, I can honestly say we are proud to be able to serve the men and women who hunt with Hounds. If you’re one who trains and runs dogs outdoors I want you to know that Marshall is completely committed to the hound market for the long term.

As you know, GPS technology is an important part of finding dogs now and in the future. So I want to confirm here and now that we are working on tracking products that will use GPS. And we are working on other technologies as well.

So when will these be available? I hope that you will understand that for competitive and technological reasons we cannot give you a precise answer to that question. Nor can we tell you details about what it will be like. In fact, I can’t even confirm whether certain rumors going around are correct or not, because that would also inform our competitors.

What I can tell you is that if you have enjoyed Marshall products in the past, then you will not be disappointed by what we are doing. We are not interested in making an average product. A mediocre tracker can be designed quickly, but a great one truly takes a good, long while. I wish I could easily explain why it’s so hard to push the bar higher in electronics. It took us years and years to figure out how to outdo the old style tracking products of our competitors – they have some good engineers – but eventually we did. We have put so much effort into the very physics of tracking that the most discriminating buyers of all, the US military and even NASA, have come to Marshall to buy the same products that we designed for Houndsmen.

But they’re not our real customers, you are. We understand if you need to use one of our competitor’s products now instead of ours, and we congratulate our competitor for doing a good job. But as I said, we are in this market for the long haul and a few years of lost sales are a small thing to us – compared to doing the right thing for our fans and customers. No matter how much pressure we’re feeling here in the product development kitchen, we’re just not going to take the bread out of the oven too soon. We’ll announce it in its due time, just a bit before it’s steaming hot and covered with melting butter and honey on the table . . .

So I hope you’ll hang in there with us, if not now, at least down the road. We hope we might have earned your trust in the past. We hope you consider us partner in the search for the very best in long range, reliable Hound tracking equipment. And we truly appreciate your business, as well as your faith in us going forward. Thank you...

- David L. Marshall

Jim I believe you have yet to own a garmin correct?? I have had mine nearly a year and had not one issue yet. My gosh if you are just going to wait to use technology until they perfect it, you are missing out on a lot of great things for a lot of years because just when the "new perfect system" comes out and you buy it, there will be a next one. Thats up to you though.

I think that one uses your cell phone --you have to pay a monthy fee ---and if your are hunting in a area where the SAT. SERVICE is bad it dose not work --

does not rely on cellular networks or any other network-based coverage system.

"The Tinyloc hound Finder is a 100% GPS-based tracking system with better GPS coverage than any other hound tracker on the market. And with built-in radio tracking in the same system, you can also track your dogs over long distances. Be up to speed with your dog: Using Google Earth, our software provides important statistics and data to help you analyze your dog’s performance."

What makes you think you will be impressed with the Marshall then? Or are you going to wait a few years on that also to see if it pans out? Heck, maybe you should wait till they have a video tracking system and the dog can email you or send text when he gets hooked. But then who knows if that will work and you will be waiting on that to see if it works.

The garmin system IMO is kinda like the nite hunts on this board. 99% of people have a good experience with them, but people tend to only believe the 1% that have a bad expereince. Don't matter to me if you buy a garmin, Marshall, stick with your beep beep, or get a bell. My hunts are better and I learn more about my dog in a night with a garmin than I did in a year with a telemetry system. You use what works for you though.

So what will the garmin =?? Does it come with a treadmill that you can walk on while your waiting to get treed? How does the garmin make you lazy? It doesn't go get the dogs for you.

Jim your grasping at straws as usual. Like I said I don't care what you do. You can ride a horse to your spots if you want. No skin off my back at all. "get a life" let me guess, you grew up in the 80's?? Maybe we can get together and watch the Breakfast Club sometime....LOL LOL LOL

Never heard of TINY LOC company. Why don't one of you rich guys buy one and report back on how it works. LOL! Now this was a joke don't anybody get all mad. Most coonhunter are like me already spent too much on hunting. I wonder if they need someone to test one. I'd volunteer, but would have to have one free and a little extra for my time. LOL!

It's really funny that no one seems to know much or any one has one of this units in the hound world. Is this a new company?

i may be mistaken but this system has been used in europe by houndsmen almost as long as the garmins have been out.

Never ask a man what kind of dog he has. If he has a hound he'll tell you, if he does not, you don't want to shame him by asking.

Seriously Safe Lock, technology is being used in kids backpacks. they are sewn into the design of the back packs. And you tell where your kids back pack is at all day from your computer. If this is same as tracking a cell phone I don't know. There was a story on Good Morning America this summer about tracking your kids and them not knowing it.

Glad my wife is not techno. savvy
