I'd have to minus it Jack. I've seen coon do some funny stuff, but never walk a power line like a tight rope. Sounds like the coon tapped that pole, and went to the next, just like a dog coming up short in the woods.

Even though I've never seen a coon do it, I've seen plenty of squirrels do it.. this is a tough one!

You plus it, the wire is the same as a limb. LOL
Even if it is a mile down the road all the poles are conected.
I think I would have to minus mine and just figure he was airing it and wasn't very good at locateing off air scent.

That is a tough one, and a judgment call for each of the handlers.

I once heard a story of a well known handler whose dog got deep in a section and was found treed on a power pole. Handler began walking down the road shining every bit of cable and each pole. He wanted it circled.

If y'all plus that tree, I can understand it... but once that's done, everyone is going to want to circle it every time a dog trees on a power pole. Surely, there's a coon on that power grid somewhere in the state.

I'd vote to minus it. Your dog, my dog, it don't matter, my vote would be minus. I don't believe a coon walks a powerline pole to pole. Now if the rest vote to plus, no problem. I'm just one vote.

Minus

I don't see why that's so diffucult a call to make. Minus plain & simple. Scoring like that is one of the things that some do wrong today. I'd raise more hell than a pet monkey if someone wanted to plus something like that. About like plussing dog treed on fence & fence doesn't even have a limb going from fence to tree & fence not connected in any way. Minus every time period. Some will try though.

The thing is

The cast wasn't there to see the coon cross from a pole down the electric wires to another pole. Minus only choice you have without the majority of the cast seeing it cross from the pole the dogs were treed on down the wires to the pole coon was found to be in.

I'm seeing plus

That's what's wrong with these hunts. I guarantee I'd vote to minus my dog. Pleasure hunting I'd pull her off and send her on, and most of you that say plus would do the same if it wasn't a comp hunt.

They're called honor rules, plain and simple. To me that means I will not try to fabricate any more possibilities in the hunts than I would during the week. I'm not afraid to minus my dog when it's wrong.

Nobody is going to go back to the club saying not taking my minus is how I won.

Score it like it was in kill season. I'm not gonna shoot it out to anything that I'm hunting. Kick it's butt and move on. But I bet that I know how it was scored. Sometimes the unpopular vote is the right one though and it sounds like you voted to do the right thing. Dogs missed it.... Did the pole have a hole in it too? Maybe circle it and move on, lol

A few years back I saw something happen to say "Plus it"

Three of us watched a coon crawl a electric guide cable from a tree to a barn. The coon did it hanging down. The guide cable went from a pole, through a tree, and then to the barn. The coon went up the tree, on to the cable, hung upside down on the cable, and went about 40 feet straight over to and into the barn. It only took that coon about two minutes to do it. I bet he had done it many times before.

Yeah, coons can do lots of things that seem impossible or next to it. You wanna plus all the possiblities, that is your vote. You wanna believe that coon walked a wire 200 feet to the next pole, plus it. I don't feel like my dog will benefit from me giving her the benefit of the doubt in such a situation. Nothing good comes from figureing out ways to excuse your dog.
It looks like about half are ok with plussing that coon. If they can live with plussing their dog in that situation, I'm very sure I can live with it too. My vote remains minus.

I figure it needs to be minused as well. I'm surprised so many are saying to minus. Not too often you see so many UKC hunters so willing to take they're minus.
What I was trying to say is basically what JiM just said... it really depends on each handler on how far they're willing to reach to either get they're dog undeserved plus points or avoid minus, and how far they're willing to take it if it doesn't go in they're favor.
After that deal this spring in an RQE cast where 2 handlers voted to minus and 2 voted to plus, and the MOH decided to plus it from the MOH table even though that wasn't the question brought in... anything goes.
