I would have to say i am very disapointed in the design of the DC-40. it is as if Garmin was in the middle of designing and traded quality for cost.If you compare the design of the DC-30 to the 40 the 30 you can just see a dramatic decrease in quality and design.

the first thing i noticed on the DC-40 was the plastic. i feel as if i could break it in my hand. Not to mention the wat once was a stainless steal mounting plate on the DC-30 is now replaced with light cheap grade plastic.

second was the charging situation. i for one did not have much of a problem with the 30 other than the port was exposed and was subjected to cleaning every once in a while. The DC-40's charging situation is made to look sophisticated but looks like something rather out of kid space magazine. The ports are more exposed and the new idea fixes nothing and is just one more part you have to worry about losing.

another problem i had is look how the antenna is attatched. look chincy if ya ask me. 1 little zip-tie. .............there has been nothing but complaints with the performance of the new collar and shows to be a total failure.

I think Garmin needs to stop producing these and have a massive recall and re-think their design on this collar. sure the DC-30 had its issues, but was a very nice collar when i got it. Made well and feels durable and tough. the 40? its just a complete disapointment.

Garmin needs to get more in touch with Coon hunters , bear hunters and Houndsmen in general . i know i'm just one little insignificant 19 year old , but this us just my two cents worth

signal is al i have a problem with, just loosing the collar. The zip tie is cheap looking.. But honestly i dont see it ever breaking on ya. i dont much have a problem with that..

The charging on the collar i thought was a good idea. now i dont have to keep a tooth brush beside the dc 40 like i did my 30.

It does feel cheap i will say that.. As long as it holds up. i just hate the signal on them its horrible.. i think they should be recalled also, unless they can make and update to fix the situation

DC40 is really the same as the 20 other thene the collar & antina. the 20 always lost singal now the 40 are the same way! the GPS need to be on the outside on the collar . and the 40 will be better. think about it the 20 were always looseing single cause of the GPS part was built inside the unit now they done the 40 the same way. i will keep my 30s intill some one else either comes out with one alot better or gramin improves theirs.

It seems really weird that Garmin would not know about these problems. It's like they did very little R&D testing on them, or just didn't care about the problems.

Got to remember we ask for this,The original versions was designed for the bird hunters!Us hounds men wanted something and I will give Garmin credit for trying to come up with a system for us. So far the dc-30 is working the best for me and I have used all three. What are they 4 years old now,that's not a lot of time for research and development if you think about. In another ten years we'll probably be wearing ear piece's attached to the 220 and some woman in India will be telling us that dog 1 is 330 yds south of highway 66 and dog 2 is with dog 1 and they are both treed!

I THOUGHT ABOUT GETTING ONE UNTIL I HEARD ABOUT ALL THE PROBLEMS,I ALSO HEARD THEY WOULD SHORT OUT IN WATER AND WOULD NOT WORK UNTIL THEY DRIED OUT,HAS ANYONE HAD THIS PROBLEM.

Jim, I was wondering the Same thing..

You sure see them with their hand out on these boards when it's time to collect money pre-orders, But when there is a Problem.. They can't pick which Side of the fence they want to ride.. It's pretty Dang Quite.. Maybe I'm not paying good enough attension and they've been posting these problems..

To answer your question... I have not sold a Single DC40 collar.. I had 20-30 preorders, And all of them Have been canceled or switched to DC30's.. I have one that came into day that I told the guy to hold off and Figure out if this is what he really wanted.. Not worth my time.. If you buy one from me.. It's only because I couldn't talk you out of it..
