bean field chases......

after an extended chase in a bean field tonight, my dog looks like he has been run through the ringer...lol!
the hair over his eyes and under his chest and ears is gone and his skin is red as fire...do you guys put anything on those spots or just let them heal up on there own?

we had one go through the same thing, he looked bad and was miserable for a while, shaking is head, restless, we just did what we could trying to make him comfortable, the hair is back and he is doing flips.....although the flips never actually stopped but thats what you get with a Bean pup.

beans and rice

They both will keep a dog in top shape and i love to hunt both. I have seen a bean race last one hour forty five minutes and thought my dog was blinded forever because his eyes were so raw.

I used to put salve around their eyes to keep the redness down and the moisture in. We dont grow beans around here much any more to hunt in. Sure was fun.

yep...soybeans. not really turning loose in them, but the coons have figuired out that they can make it hard on a dog if they get in a big field of them and run circles...lol!!! a dog really has to push them to get them to come out of one....sometimes you just have to wade in and get your dog back.

Beans

Thanks for the explanation. I was hoping i was missing something as it seems more and more people in these parts are planting beans vs. corn.

I had this female that I plum did not like due to her kennel manners, but I will be dang if she couldn't put an end to a soy bean field race quicker than any dog I have ever seen.

I even set her up a couple of times by letting good dogs a chance to work the coon out before I cut her, and she just had a knack about getting that coon treed quick.

yep soybeans aren't near as good as corn fields. but at least around here, every timber you cut loose in is holding coons.. and some head straight for the beans. they can make for a fun race.
