how young is too young to start workin a pup on a coon in a cage? my pup is 4 1/2 months and showin alot of pup.lol. how long should these sessions last etc. thanks for any replies. or just what should i be doin at his age besides obedience.

Work on obedience first (everyday) and put a caged coon out in yard ( 1-2 time a week) somewhere and let him find it. Encourage him to bark at it but a pups attention span is often short so dont be dissapointed if he only shows intrest for a few minutes. Also remember that a pup will come around on there time and not ours and every pup has differant timing. Good Luck

he can walk on leash or walk me,lol, sit,stay knows his name, walks in woods with nose to ground constantly and then sometimes gets deaf. lol. he will come eventually, i am wondering if i am puttin too much stress on come here now when he is in the woods. i try to let him be the kid he is for the most part until it is time for training. only 15 min. at a time. he gets mad if any longer. he loves his leash, he will bite it and i dont even have to connect it and we heel. bad habit?

If he is pulling on the lead take a small small branch from a tree and pop him on the head but not to hard and tell him EASY . When you start the training session it is best to let him burn off a little energy first and the heel part I like to be able to call mine and when they come up they automaticly sit. Praise him when he comes to you but if you have to go get him scold him and spank a little but not to ruff as he is still a pup.The number one thing to remember is to be consistant on the comands that you use as to not confuse him or yourself.

If you want my opinion I would wait to show him a coon till I was 100% ready to hunt him for the next couple months. I would show him one coon, see if he can run and tree it, then hunt him 10 times and see what happens.

4.5 months old is too young for me to do it, but its really up to you. I would rather have them be hunting age before I mess with them. For me thats around 8-10 months old depending on how they are acting. To show a coon at 5 months then have to wait another 3 months to hunt him makes me think he might forget little about what you showed him. If you start showing them coons at this age you tend to keep doing it and by the time they are ready to hunt you have showed them too many in my opinion.

my dog was running and treeing with older dogs by 6 months old he first saw a coon when he was 3 months old
