Face Barking

I've got an 16 month old Walker and she is a pretty good coon dog all around. I havent hunted her alot around other dog's but a couple of nights ago i went hunting with a buddy of mine and my gyp struck track first and treed first. When we were headed to the tree i noticed her double barking instead of chopping on the tree and come to fined out she was face barking the other dog. What can i do to break this out of her?

Just like little kids need discipline so do young hounds.

If she's any kind of a tree dog she be fine, just stand close to her bring the other dog around the tree beside her a catch her doing it.
My young pup last night was growling at the older dog over a coon we shot out, I just got me a stick that was about inch in diameter and broke it over his head, next coon we had no growling. Its like this there either gonna be a tree dog or there not and if there not a tree dog afterwards you don't want em anyway. jmo

WHAT ABOUT WHEN THEY ARE TINY PUPS? I MEAN LIKE 3 MONTHS OLD. WE'VE GOT A LITTLE FEMALE AND SHE'S THE FACE BARKINGEST THING I'VE EVER SEEN IN THE KENNEL.

I DONT THINK IT'S AGGRESSIVE FACE BARKING, BECAUSE SHE'S NOT TRYING TO GET THROUGH THE FENCE OR ANYTHING, BUT IT WILL STILL DRIVE YOU NUTS, AND I DONT WANT IT TO GET WORSE.

WE'VE SMACKED HER AND WHIPPED HER WITH HICKORY STICKS, SOAKED HER WITH THE WATER HOSE. WE'VE BEEN MILD, BUT IT'S JUST LIKE SHE DOESNT PAY US ANY ATTENTION.

AND THE BAD THING IS, SHE'S KENNELED WITH 2 OTHER PUPS, A MALE AND A FEMALE AND NOW THE FEMALE IS STARTING TO DO IT TOO A LITTLE.

WE'VE NEVER HAD ONE THAT STARTED THIS YOUNG AND/OR DIDN'T LEARN IT'S LESSON FIRST SWITCHING OR TWO. AND IT'S GETTING PROGRESSIVLY WORSE.

Get after them asap, I do make um stop dogs need manners to in my opinion.
One nite we were standing there watching them tree, in kc hunt and my female came off the tree an just lunged at this male dog, the male dog tool her down and starting chewing her up, I and the other handler ran in I grabbed a stick on the way in and when she looked up I was right there getting after her. I didn't beat her i just cracked her a couple of times and scolded her obiviosly on the way back to the truck never had a problem since. Smart dog and I caught her doing it at the right time.

Christy - you may need to seperate the face barker from the other two if the other is starting

I just went thru this with one. He even started chewing at the tree. I put the e-collar on him and set him up. Soon has he did it, I poured the coals to him. Been good ever since.

Christy,
I had one like that. Then it progressed into food aggression and kennel destruction.. He was 25 feet from the other dogs and was still growling at them. Then when I started hunting him. He'd come flying out of know where and t=bone the other dogs on a dead run. I to made all the corrections. He never got with the program.
He's taking a dirt nap. Sometimes its a tough choice.

Scott

Christy

I've had good luck with grabbing the pup up by the scruff of the neck, give her a good shaking, usually with a newpaper on the behind at the same time.. Instead of releasing them, I (still holding onto their scruff) roll them over onto their backs and hold them there.. If they start struggling.. I repeat the process.. Until they can lay there submissively, they don't get let up.. It's worked for me.. With no issues later on... Hopefully you can work her through it..

I've had a couple young dogs facebark at trees.. I finally quit buying/fixing headlamps.. I have a bad habit of using one of those to "discourage" that type of behavior.. A few it worked on.. a few never got over it and won't be facebarking anymore..

I've noticed as a general rule, the worse they are about face licking the more prone to face barking and "herding". Facebarking is as bad as fighting, and leads to fighting. I won't tolerate any of it. I usually get rid of a pup if it continually face licks after being corrected for it. One of the biggest peeves I have with pups. Luckily I have been fortunate to have fallen into streak of non-face licking pups. Been a while since I had one.
