Off Ground Kennels?

Im getting ready to build a off ground kennel. I was going to do 3 ft off the ground and 3 ft of pen. Would 3 ft be tall enough for the average dog or should i go 4?

unless you have real good shade if you use tin on the top it will get real hot on a dog that close to them you can put insulation board under the tin to help with this

Three feet off the ground is good in case you ever want to clean it out. The waste might get a foot thick after a while. But it never stinks after the first month because something like mealworms take over. Mine's about 4 feet wide cause that's what the floor panel is. It stays fairly dry underneath because it is covered with gas station canopy type tin.I never wash it out.

Thanks for the input, do you think the three foot of pen would be tall enough?

They can't rear up.Mine has a 2X8 around to top to screw the chainlink to. Then 2X4 rafters for the tin so its about 4 feet high. Higher than that is better if in the sun. Mine's in the shade and that kind of tin fills up with leaves. If yours will be in the sun you will need insulation even if is only leaves.Although built for a heat/whelping pen, it stays in use with anything I want separated. Put a door on the back of the box for checking pups, bedding, etc. .
