i try to be consistent with a collar as long as it dosen't hurt their treeing. I've had pretty good luck that way. I let mike shine and i never take my eves off the dog. Try to get him everytime he jumps.

We always have tied em to the tree, I've heard others do this and have luck ith it as well.

Just catch it early. Be consistent. my 2cents

well some one on this board suggested to me to tie a lock around their neck with just enuff rope so that when they jump the lock swings up and bops them on the head. i tried it, it took about 5 times bouncing off the head and he don't jump the tree anymore. i have hunted him maybe 5/6 times since and no jacking

I been fooling with dogs all my life and never had one as stubborn about jacking the tree. She is about 35lbs soaking wet and will jump and hang on the tree like a cat. She can climb another 4 or 5 ft this way. She is a good treedog when she settles but she don't settle long til she is back in the air. I told the boy hunting her for me to try bumping her with the collar when she is in the air. Thanks again

I heard a chain a nice big logging chain couple big padlocks and hook it to em at the tree after a couple times hell quit. But to me that seems like he'd get smart and only do it when your not standing there. Same with pulling them down with the lead I had one he could jump 5 foot in the air flat footed

Dogs are born with a certain tree style. You may change it some but I have never been able to stop one from running the tree altogether. Sure can cause alot of trouble at the tree. good luck

shock collar breaks it while you are there... then get a lighted collar and stay back when it goes up shock it you can break it if you stay on top of it... but usually first time you go to a hunt with a tree jacker it starts all over again... it is not simple and a real pain

My young Bluedog male was the worst I ever had.

I used a long choakchain with a padlock. It helped some. But he still does some before I get to the tree. A hot tree is worst of all.

I have started working him with a short chain nailed to the tree. I carry a choakchin with a snap on it, a hammer, and large staples. Just nail the chain to the tree trunk, giving him enough chain to stand up on the tree. No way he can jump. I think this is helping more than the lock on the choakchain.

All dogs are different..... LOL

You should try the nicking when the back feet come off the ground. Same thing the dog gets punished when his back feet come off the ground. You just don't have to carry the hardware store and you can stand back in the dark and do it before you even go all the way to the tree.
Let the dog get use to a nick every time its back feet come off and then walk in and tie it low or just leave it off and keep on nicking but pet it as long as its feet stays on the ground.

Why would anyone let their dog run through the timber with a 12 inch length of any kind of chain dangling from their neck? Easiest way I can think of to get a dog hung.
