Bad luck and BooBoo's
Hunted in an RQE last night and just plain got beat by them. We had dogs tree'd up on a hill pretty deep in the country to our left while my dog was working an old bad track down a creek to our right. After scoring the dogs that were tree'd (1 dog was still running on the hill) we went back down in the bottom where we could split the difference between the dogs and I could hear mine. The dogs from the tree were released and about 5 minutes later the dog on the hill was declared tree'd. About the same time I tree'd mine the opposite direction, since we were pretty close to the dog on the hill we went to him first, I should have gone and handled my dog instead and let the other cast members score that tree. Why? As we were leaving the tree, here came the 4 wheelers tearing through the country where my dog was tree'd, and man were they loud!!! Needless to say, when they left, my dog wasn't tree'd any more. Drawing me 125 minus on tree, luckily he opened back up quick, but in a bad place (close to a road when he opened) so the strike was deleted and the dog was caught without any more disasters there.
Well, when I got him handled we moved to a new spot where we had to split the strike and take a second tree on a red hot coon which really didn't help me at all since I had the only minus of the three remaining dogs. At this point we had about 21 minutes left to hunt, score? 1 dog had 200 plus , I had 25 plus, 3rd and 4th dogs out of the game and in the box,still not over by any means. We move and turn loose again, this time I get first strike and the dog leading the cast stays at our feet, even laid down twice to rest while my dog was working a track. 26 minutes after we turned loose (5 minutes too late) my dog tree's and has two kitten coons on a grapevine going up into a big beech tree. Now thats just when everything is trying to tell you, NOT TONIGHT GUYS!
Luckily they have more next week.
