Non hunting judge?

4 dog cast with a NON-HUNTING judge. First drop dogs get treed and cast walks toward tree. Before the cast gets to the tree, the NON-HUNTING judge's light goes out!!! The NON-HUNTING judge scores the tree without a light!!!!! Regardless of how its scored, I have a MAJOR problem scoring a tree without a light. We've all been without a light at some point or another and experienced how hard it is to tell anything about a tree that way. Also when someone tries showing you something in a tree and says look in the center of my light! Sometimes you never see what theyre seeing even when its legit!! Okay gentlemen, lets have everyones thoughts on this. Thanks

I

don't think i could score a tree without a light. Looks like he would have to use someones in the cast light if that is allowed or would have to go get a light using whatever rules you would have to in that situation.

I'm not sure what you mean by this. All cast members shine the tree with or without a non hunting judge. Nobody can score a tree without putting a light up the tree. This sounds like a very mis-informed cast. When scoring trees with a non hunting judge he is the only one that can plus a tree with just him seeing it but he can't do that without putting a light up the tree. He could be plussing a opossume.

Exactly! The non hunting judge is the only one who has to see anything. It dont matter what the rest of the cast sees.

Not sure where youre going with that but I can tell you a handlers job is not to furnish lights for non hunting judges! UKC picks the judges, let them furnish the lights!

Well, common sense told me at the time that since he refused a light offered by a spectator, then I doubt he wouldve took mine!! Again, its the judges responsibility to have a working light to judge a cast with!

As a cast member it's our responsibility also to show some sportmanship.
If he declined your lite offer it's time to head back to the club for a different non-hunting judge before the next drop.

The point of the question is this. #1 How should the scoring of the tree been handled since he had no light and refused one? #2 If this had been taken to moh, how should the moh have handled it? I have my own opinion, I'm just wantin input from others.

I guess you do the same thing you do on a hunting judge cast, you find your coon and then bring the judge over and show him the coon. If he cannot see it with your light, you are just s.o.l.

Sounds like a screwy ordeal. If a non hunting judge has no light and refuses to borrow someone elses he has no business whatsoever judging a cast. Very poor job by the club, if he is all they had to offer then a non hunting judge should not have been used. What good is a judge without a light? The single most important thing in a cast is scoring trees properly and you sure can't do it without a light.

I'LL

take a guess you would have to call timeout and go back to the club and get another judge or explain what happened to moh and see what he says. Judge couldn't possibly score trees right without using a light.

Weve all been huntin when somebody tried to show us something with their light. Its not near as easy to see what theyre showing you unless you have a light yourself. Alot of that has to do with your height. If your taller or shorter than someone, it casts different shadows due to the angle. By the way Jim, Im curious why this wasnt the answer you gave me on the phone a couple weeks ago?
