North-South Partnership

I have been kicking this idea around for several years now and just haven't really persued it. One reason was that I kept hoping to buy a place up north and have my own place but that hasn't worked out, so here is the idea. My hunting in Florida is best from Nov.-Mar. I can hunt 3-7 nights a week here and really keep a dog tuned up and ready for the hunts, as demonstrated with the Stone dog this winter. Most northern states become "snowed" in at some point throughout the winter months and dogs are laying around not getting hunted. Then from Mar.-Oct. our hunting is basically done with the exception of a couple nights a month. So a north-south partnership could keep a dog in top hunting shape all year long. It would give the dog the opportunity to hunt in a different enviroment and under varied conditions all of which SHOULD make for a better hound. Now I know there are a lot of problems that go along with a partnership that would have to be worked out but with the right partner I think it could work. Those of you who know me know that I am willing to travel and stay up north for long periods of time so I could put in my share of work up there also. The partners would have to agree on cost sharing...in order for this to work.
Now rather than have this turn ugly, please give your opinions and suggestions BUT PLEASE DON'T MAKE IT PERSONAL against anyone or their ideas.

you must have read my mind/i thought of the same thing and going to try to make it work this year/the main thing is to find a person that is as passionate about improving and bettering the hounds we hunt as you are and responsible enough to take care of a dog/medically as well/my thought were take a pup 5 months old run the helll out of it in ohio till its about 11 months old ands then bring it south to the real world it should already have a good start and be well on its way and just alternate hounds every 6 months/i can put the huntin on 1 i just dont have alot of hunts around here. i like the idea. any other suggestions

I agree that it would take two "like minded" people who hunt in much the same way and have the same expectations of a dog. It would also take partners who feel the same about proper care and treatment of their dog. I don't think it is really all that hard to find like minded people.

PS Believe me a treadmill from Walmart doesn't give the same thrill. I have been down that road also. Coon hunting is my life and I can't change that.

Clay, I think that is a great idea but finding the right person or persons to partner with might be a huge hurdle. If you did venture into something I'd be sure to have some sort of written contract to protect both parties.

As we all know, coonhunters can be the best folks on earth but they're also plenty that are scum of the earth, or will turn on you if it is in they're best interest.

PS> I still ain't been paid by that guy in NW Florida.
