Rules ?

Our club had a hunt last night and we had a cast come in with the following: Hunting judge , All cast members signed the card but here is the problem judge didnt sign the bottom of the card or fill out number of coon seen or scored. also at the top of the card there was no time written down for minutes used. What should be done with this card?
After we get some responses I will post what our ruling was and we also talked to two master of hounds about this. Our hunt was run under a hunt director.

if therer is a hunting judge then he only has to sign the card 1 time. there does not have to be a time in the upper left ( that was done away with a couple of years ago)coon seen and coons scored is for dept of nat rescorces not ukc. all handlers signed card, if there was a cast winner then shake his hand and tell him and his dog good job

All those things are not a necessity. As long as you have an honest score card, signed by the judge (he signed on the card once) and the other hunters, then give the cast winner his win, a handshake, and a smile.

As long as the hunting judge signs the card in his dogs space, it is acceptable as per Allen and Todd, the coons scored and seen isn't that important. Trust me, I made that horrible mistake as a MOH and threw out a good friends scorecard for that a couple of years ago. We are still friends, but I regret that to this day.
Hopefully you all didn't make the same mistake that I did. If you did, I hope the guy filed a formal complaint so UKC can make it right.

I thought there was an adviser colum that stated the only thing that is nessasary for a card to be acceptable is all the plus and minus points and the cast winners signature to be valid. I think this is for the sore losers that won't sign the card for what ever reason. I might be wrong but I thought that is what I remember reading but can't seem to find that article. If someone knows what issue it was discussed in please let me know.

Actually, the judge doesn't even have to sign. The only thing required to make a card valid is the signature of the cast winner.

July 2006 advisor

Condensed version: Hunting judge's signature on the bottom left only is acceptable. A hunting judge's signature on the right half of the scorecard is acceptable. It is a good idea for the hunting judge's to sign at the bottom left notating their resposibility on the cast, however, bottom line- so long as the signature is somewhere on the card in one place or another , it should be accepted as a complete scorecard.

Because Todd says so.
Page 38 in the Advisor covers this question. It lists only 3 things that make a scorecard invalid and the first one listed is no longer valid because of the change to the scorecards that eliminated the time boxes. What is left are two things that invalidate a scorecard accorcing to the Advisor. One is not signing the card , scratch anyone that doesn't sign. The other is strike and/or tree points not recorded.
So as long as the cast winner signs the card and the points are recorded, the card must be accepted by the MOH. That is right out of the Advisor.

Tim, that same column on page 38 of the Advisor lists 5 things that are not considered incomplete/do not scratch. One of them is judges signature line not filled out. It specifically states you should not sctatch a card because the judges signature line is not signed.

You know what would help with many of these ridiculous scores that many seem to come in with? Each drop in the upper left hand corner where you put 120 used, ukc should require the time to be noted on each turn loose. I guarantee it would hepl bring some scores down. O was in a cast a while back and when I left the cast there was 55 mins left and I was the only dog with plus when I left all the other 3 had minus points. I found out the next day that the judge won the cast with 975 plus, imagine that.

The card was accepted and cast win awarded. We called two MOH and they both told us as long as the card was signed by cast members it was valid. Thanks for the replys
