Not sure what meat hogs have to do with ukc dogs, but thanks for showing them. I wish I lived closer and I would buy one off you in the Fall. Our church College ministry is having a Hawaiian style luau for the back to school party.

there are hogs not nearly that good bringing 300 to 500.00 per head for show animals for fairs. And some will bring 5 x that amount.

Who's the man for fair show pigs in the Ohio,Indiana area? Maybe early to mid March for early Sept. fair. Some coonhunter must be good at dogs and hogs. I'm just fair at dogs and definately middle of the road at hogs.

Josh , I have alway's raised something ..... cattle , goats etc... but just got back in the pigs in the last yr..... Mainly focusing on Heritage pigs that can still rustle in the woods and pasture and have marbling in the meat...
We have lost alot of those traits buy breeding for factory hogs......
Its funny, Lard is on the come back , Chef's are paying premiums for it and studies show that natural raised Hogs fat is not bad after all , has alot of the same ingredients as olive oil......
Just trying to raise something good for the family ..........

Nothing like farm raised beef, hogs, or whatever it is. Feed it corn and let it roam and its gonna taste better than having it in a feed lot or confignment. Lot healthier than store boughten. Good to hear that lard is good for you. Figured after all the years of my grandma cooking I would have clogged arteries, lol. Probably still do from all the McDonalds and other fast food places I seem to eat at a lot. I miss cooking with lard. Its the real thing and food tastes a lot better than when its cooked in vegetable oil or whatever. Good luck on the hogs. Never raised any hogs myself but have always been a farm boy and grew up with my dad raising cattle, sheep, and horses.

Ignore the comment I posted to this thread before. I was only joking but I guess someone got bent out of shape, lol.

We raised thousands of hogs back when I was a kid and my only income until I was about 20 years old was from pigs I raised. Your pictures bring back some memories, thanks. Some things I miss and some things I don't.

I miss seeing a bunch of little baby pigs all lined up on momma, who'll lay on her side to give the pigs "access". The sow will grunt away, in a way that comforts her pigs. Each baby pig will claim his own teat and that will be the only one he'll use until he's weaned.

One of the things I don't miss is that smell on your hands after you've castrated a bunch of pigs. It just doesn't wash off.

We just put 800 lbs. of meat in the freezers from a calf we fattened. I've threatened to buy a couple pigs and fatten them out but the wife has given me some static on that, lol.
