premier show goers

where is the price listed at for this year? I see there is a charge for camping but is that like autumn oaks and just for camper area with hook-up? I like taking my tent and camping out in the field. And for those coonhound folks~ if you could only attend premier or autumn oaks what is your preference and why?

they are different animals, like compariing apples to bananas.

premier is a ground show, there are vendors and such, but more breeds/varieties. can show females in heat, has a show, weight pulls, terrier races (i think)

AO is for coonhounds, lots of vendors and such, only coonhounds. cannot show females in heat. has a show and nite hunt.

i have been to premier 1x, enjoyed it, it was different experience. have been to AO for about 7yrs (still a newbie). its enjoyable, lots to do/see.

i would recommend going to both at least once. maybe visit both and enter at one. you'll have a good time regardless of which you choose. jmo

Exactly the way I see it. Both are entertaining depending mostly on which you like best. Even the conversations with others is different between the two.

lol I am entering akc too! I see what you are saying with akc shows... oh well. I was wondering from coonhound owners would you rather enter autumn oaks or premier. I know that premier is an all breed I just am trying to juggle the finances and I have been to a.o. in the past so I sorta know what to expect there as far as the show goes. Is there a chance in you know where of coonhounds faring well at premier?

Cynthia is dead on right when it comes to comparing the Premier and Autumn Oaks. It's simply a matter of preference.

Autumn Oaks is an elite event for coonhounds.
The Premier is an elite even for conformation events and all dogs can participate.

I will add that that there is more events to watch at Premier...not only terrier races, conformation events, and weight pulls, but they also have dog sports (dog protection events usually german breeds, but any dog can do it....very interesting to watch handlers "turn them on" and "turn them off"), dock jumping (yes, they set up a swimming pool for the dogs) and obedience events.

i love the whole weekend showing conformation and watching other events.

Just be prepared to show coonhounds against the beagle, harrier, and the dachsund among others. Competition in the Scenthound group can be fierce with only 4 placements.

Also, if you're hound isn't accustomed to the small fluffy dogs, be ready. I've seen some coonhounds go nuts wanting to check them out.....guess they think they are small enough to resemble game :-). Of course, I've seen some coonhounds (mine....) that was totally freaked out by a gorgeous poodle warming up. She didn't know what to think of all that hair I guess. :-)

It seems a HARD choice. Good luck whatever you decide!

Oh, I just re-read your last post.....coonhounds can fare VERY WELL at the Premier. I can think of 2 or 3 that went Best in Show or Reserve Best in Show multiple times. Our dogs are sound for the most part and a good judge will put them up.
