Oklahoma Hunters Read And Act Now
The good news is that the conference committee's substitute for SB 2093, which would have destroyed our legal right to retrieve our hound,s was rejected. The bad news is that the author request that the matter be reconsidered. This request was honored so apparently this battle continues. Below is a copy of the email I sent to all the members on this conference committee. You may also wish to email them. Also below is a list of the members of the conference committee with their home towns, and the counties they represent. If you can please call these legislators asking them to preserve our right to retrieve our hounds. If you know hunters or dog owners in any of the legislators districts, contact them and ask them to call their legislator and ask him to preserve our right to retrieve our hounds. The time is short and the situation is critical.

Subject: SB 2093
I am writing to you as members of the conference committee reconsidering a substitute to SB 2093. I and those I represent are strongly opposed to the removal of the phrase "or other animals" on page 3 line 21 which is in the current trespass law but was recommended for removal in the original conference committee substitute. Removal of this phrase would limit the legal right of dog owners to retrieve their dogs who have strayed onto the land of another person. It is an unfortunate circumstance when dogs get onto another person's property but the quickest and best remedy to this problem is for the owner to retrieve the dogs as quickly as possible. To make it a crime punishable by stiff fines to retrieve one's dog will endanger both the dogs and their owners. Preventing rapid retrieval is also not in the best interest of the land owner. As you reconsider SB 2093, please restore the phrase "or other animals" in line 21 of page 3.
Thanks
John Thornton
