Many years ago I lived in st. louis and man those seed ticks are the worse. One day my little boy got into them and we had to strip and hand pick hundreds of them from every crack in his body. Stay out of the woods is all people would tell me, but that's like telling a fish to forget the water.

ive used the insect repellent that has DEET in it in areas where they are bad. have put it on the dogs feet, in between toes and up the leg some. put on shoes, pants, etc. that usually worked...only found a couple last time.

I think seed ticks are hatchlings ticks tiny as a mite. You don't one you might get the whole nest of a thousand. I also work in the woods. Deet helps keep them off and I find about any spray works real good if you wait till you get back to the truck and spray them but don't wait till bite. Spray boots , socks, and pants inside and out and your skin. If you're working with the opposite sex you might have to put aside your modesty. I'm probably so poisonous buzzards wouldn't even eat me.

Permanone

Repel makes it. I buy mine from Wal-Mart in the camping section. It comes in an orange and blue can. Dont spray it on your skin.

if you get in them, come home and take a bath with about a quart to 1/2 gallon of BLEACH in it. the bleach will kill them and they will come off without having to pick them with a microscope.

repel's permone on the clothes does help. it has permethrin in it which is an insecticide( a killing agent, not a repellent).

Easy problem to solve

Go to your local feed store & buy a packet of CATTLE EAR TAGS
Cut 2 vertical slits as long as the dog collar is wide.
Slide the tag onto the collar.
The ticks already on the dog will die in4-5 days and after that, your dog will not pick up any ticks.
I train & handle for a Veterinarian & this is his recommendation - I use this method. The tags last for at least 6 months.
IT WORKS!

use the same concept, except put them on your belt or thread thru shoe/boot laces....could work.

permethrin

I highly recommend staying away from permethrin and keep it away from kids at all costs. I had a dog have a allergic reaction to it from Bio spot. I got lucky. Most don't.
Here is some info on it.

Man I wished I hadn't read that, I just got done spraying it all over my hunting clothes for tonight. It seems to be the most effective thing for ticks.
