Gps Problem

OK mine has had this shadow on it the screen since friday night, moisture i assume
does this happen or do i need to send it back

also what can i do about having no range..........i mean less than 345 yards.thats what it said when it lost signal. it came back but lost it again several times until i hooked the roof mount up then it was good......but hell i can hear my hound on tree that far away.
its been ok till this weekend it seems now the leaves are on good the range is starting to suck....i hope this is not what is to be expected during the summer months.
everybody says when these things act stupid its ussauly the user so tell me......what could i possibly be doing wrong

It looks like the unit has suffered a significant impact (looks like the LCD's may be busted.

Either that or moisture.

Either way it's not right and you will have to send it back to Garmin for repair.

It may have something to do with your range issue as mine had no issues even in full blown summer leaves last year.

Was it placed in extreme heat? This would happen if left in a car with the windows rolled up in the heat of a parking lot.

Not only heat, but if the screen was in direct sunlight for a long time that would cause this problem as well.

what he said. also do you use a led head? some led heads affect the loosing signal part between 300 and 400 yrds.

I would say it was not moisture if you didn't have it near water. I would say it was direct sunlight or heat. I wouldn't store mine in my truck without it being under my seat or something. I would give it a week using it nightly before I would send it back. Though I am not sure what the range problem would be.

Have you tightened the collar connections? They could be loose. Or if you have tightened them, could you have over tightened them?

MINE BROKE

Mine broke where it was connected to the antenna on the inside and I wasn't getting but a couple of hundred yards out of it ! Sent it back they sent me a new one. The way you can tell is if the antenna will keep spinning when you tighten it , it will be snugg but never stop being able to turn.

UPDATE
what i found was when i put in back in the case with a wet collar right after a hunt i would get moisture under the screen of the handheld unit,so i just put the hand held back in the box and keep the collar out till it dries.this has seemed to solve my problem but still i dont think it should get moisture in it like that.
the range thing has been in just one place, one particular creek bottom when i stand or drive within a certain 100 yrd circle it loses signal, get out of that circle and it comes back, and it only started doing it when the leaves started getting on the trees.

Must be haunted ground up there..Leaves have never effected mine at all..I've had since they first came out almost..Matter of fact..I cant tell any difference in summer time and winter time tracking..I would however send it back for the moisture problem..That aint right!!!!!!!!

Yeah i thought about haunted ground too, maybe a cemetary i just hadnt layed eyes on yet or some guy told me there may be some iron underground that may affect the signal, heck i dont know.its just a small bowl where the darn thing just dont work.
when it works its great but i can see after the deer hunters get theses things i can see them being outlawed in virginia.we put three collars on three foxhounds and run deer one night and during deer season it would be like shooting fish in a barrel.

There are places where signals don't work as well

From CB days, I know a place about 5 miles from me that CB's signal will drop about half for about half a mile and then the signal goes right back to strong. A ham operator told me the term for it, but can't remember what it is called. I usually refer to it as a black hole.
