how to keep dog in kennel?

we've been having a problem with dogs breaking out of their kennels. They rip the chainlink completely apart and get out or they keep breaking the doors and where the chainlink is connected to the bars. We've wired it all back together many many times and its getting very sickning looking for them all the time. I would put them on chains but anywhere we can put them is cemented cause cows come in there.... we are to the point of running electric wire threw the kennel to give them a buzz whenever they try to rip the fence apart but i don't like the idea... they get hunted almost every night so i don't see why they want out sooooo bad.. any ideas on keeping them in?

They are hunted every night and ran during the day with me on my roller blades and they run loose in the yard for a while... so plenty of excercise.....

Either get the heavier gauge chainlink or welded wire cattle panels no dog will go thru it. JMHO Also the tighter you can get the chainlink the better

Ive been through exactly what you just said. I eventually had to buy heavier guage kennel panels. The lowes kennels wont hold up to anything.

small volt electric fence wire will work wonders. if you can afford it cattle panels r the way to go. i just built new kennels and used cattle panel wire. its expensive these days!

I'd try Tri-Tronics before spending more $$ on kennels, cow panels, ect.

im tellin you if you run eletric wire you myswell just got on an pop a cap cause they ant going to be worth a hot bottle of piss cause they stop at eletric fences an etc.. so if you do that then myswell just got on an shoot um ....you need stiffer gauge chain link like the orignal chain link kennel not the cheap an flimsy wire...

kennels

I would run the electric around it. I use it on mine and it doesn't bother them a bit in the woods. I never have any problems with them stopping at fences. Put it lo and close to the chainlink. They might not dig under a fence out in the wild but chances are if they have to dig under it they don't need through there anyway.

I have a fencer hooked in mine. One up high to keep them from climbing out and another one low to keep them from digging out.
It's great if you have females. Keeps the males away. The females can't back up to the fence and the males can't climb over to get in.

JJ hears the clicking sound and know when it's off. So if she get's out. It's my fault for not turning it back on. DOH.
They make a fencer for small animals. Farm and Fleet has them. That's what I use.
Good luck Alex.
Scott

I can't take a dog that is a pain in the neck, but I do my best to make sure they don't cause me headaches. I have two of the welded wire kennels. They are pricey, but worth every penny to me. I put them in there and no worries. One time of a dog getting out and causing me to get in trouble is woth the price of those pens.

And in the future, consider buying hounds from breeders who take into consideration dogs temperment and personality in their breeding programs. If your dogs are hunted regularly and excercised also and they still do this- there is something else wrong here.

Do they get rawhides to stem the boredom?

Yep 9 gage wire and posts or horse pannels. If you can't afford to re do the runs just run a good hot wire down them. A good high drive dog is hard to keep in a lot of the time. Have to give them respect for the wire. They should be good all night dogs though. lol

I know its popular now to keep dogs in a kennel, but i think a dog stays in better physical shape on a tieout not to mention they dont have to look at the world through a fence.

I do the same but use goat panels. I put them around all my pens as well as under them, so no diggin in or out. I did this so that no strays got to my females while they were in heat. But found I like it so much that I will "reinforce" all my pens, pics are on my website.

My dogs are bred to be COONDOGS. they chew threw their fence to get to the woods in our back yard, everytime they break out i find them treed back there so its not something wrong in their breeding.... They just can't get enough of COON. and yes they get rawhides but they only last so long.....
