Pregnant dog eating her bedding?

I have a female that is 2 weeks away from her due date. I just discovered that she has been eating straw from inside her doghouse. We found several piles of poop while cleaning her kennel, and upon closer examination, her poop looks like something that came out of a horse. I don't think it has been going on for more than a couple of days, but could this be harmful to her or the pups? She doesn't seem to be eating much dog food in the past couple of days, and I have been free-feeding her for weeks now.

I am planning on removing all her bedding today after work, I am just wondering if anyone has had a female do this? Is there a reason why? This is her second litter and she did not do this last time. I guess I will have to give her a blanket instead of straw, but what about when the pups are born? I have never had a dog do this before...

Don't put any bedding in. Just leave a good hard smooth serfice for her. It is easier for her to clean up the mess and pups. A plastic kids swimming pool works great. They are non pourus and germ free. They bitch can feel a pup if she lays on one too. If you use a dog house use a igloo.

Last time she whelped, I used a kiddie pool with straw in it. Was planning on doing that this time, too, but I suppose I'll just leave it bare, as suggested...
