I say, if your in thick coon, the cur "if he is good" will stand a great chance in winning,if the coons not moving good,i would go with the walker"if he is good". Good luck and a have a good hunt.

I have both good hounds and good Curs. The best one any given night depends on the conditions. Thick and thin makes a difference, tracking conditions also make a difference. I can hunt my Curs in areas my hounds would get me in trouble.

I'm going to make some mad. I've heard this debate before. I've seen it first hand several times. The hound will win. I'm sure that there are exception to every rule, but I have saw the hound win every time. It could be a walker or black and tan or blue dog, it doesn't matter.

cur or walker

I would put my money on a cur. We have a good one out of shamrock he is great, and he seems to out do our wipeout dog everytime.. but they are both excellent dogs. but buck the cur just seems to have the know.. and he loves to catch them on the ground.!!!

I hope the walker wins because I'm a walker man through and through but it's not important, what is important is that you get to hunt with your grandad and you both have fun!

The walker I got is out of jet and. His leopard cur came nc where she hadn't been hunted in a while she's 4 I think I heard him say she's sisters to mcdills pretty girl or related to her in some way her brothers ben and hobo both were in the lep world hunt hobo placed 3 ben won it in 07 but she likes to lie (slick tree) where were hunting a lot of people hunt it and there's not a lot of coons left my self has killed 40 some out of there this year (state park) so I believe walkers have the drive to go and get a coon because if nothings close you will find him oh 900 yards before hell strike mile and half treed. But he has the coon or den tree so id have to say walker

I wish someone in my family was interested in coonhunting I can't imagine how fun it would be to hunt with your grandpa, and my dad he was nener there so the thought of hunting with him never crossed my mind, but I got my first kid in the oven right now I sure hope it's a boy so we can hunt together

i find that silent or semi silent dogs whether curs or hounds have a nack of catching coon on the ground a lot more than a hound that tracksopen mouthed. i have seen a few hounds that started as open learn that they can catch more by being quiet

Yep I got a son that don't like to kill anything that isn't shooting at him first. Sex don't matter if they don't like to go. I have one of each and neither like to hunt.
I have FIVE GRAND CHILDREN COMEING UP THOUGH!!!!!!!!LOL
My son came home from Iraq like that so we still go shoot and he don't mind plankeing turtles and that is just as fun.

hot tracks the cure will smoke aney hound but they have to be good like the differencs between a coon hound and a COON DOG i hunted with a samll cur for years till it dyed of old age that belonged to dee adkins and dee passed away also now.we ust to tell people that his cure could beat ower hounds and they would laph till they sean it do it night after night but the hounds could beat it on lay ups and on a cold track the cure could not smell the track but it knew to fallow them till it got hot then the cure would tree the cooon 99 percent of the time and that cure was a once of a life time cure we called her prince,david... ps you would have had to sean it first hand to belive it but it is the truth and WE HAD COON DOGS NOT JUST COON HOUNDS

I've seen curs that have treed 2 or 3 coons behind walkers that were still on the track they had started. I like both but in point if you love to hear a hound working a track go with a walker or whatever coonhound. If you want the fur and the meat get a cur!

LEOPARD OR MT. CUR?

I think both the leopard, mt. cur , and the walker are all fine coon dogs. And I think on any given night any one can beat the other. But here is the question, I have seen cold nosed leopards and cold nosed walkers, but I dont know that much about mt. curs. The question I have is are mt.curs cold nosed and do they bark on track. Just wonderin. GOD BLESS YALL.

i have a stephens stock cur that is open on track. she is so fired up and makes so much noise, the other dogs are compelled to go with her. she's my smaller cur but she is the most energetic and determined. my kemmer cur is 6 years old. she'll open some as the track gets hot. she wise and measures in her hunting.

BE CAREFULL

THERE ARE SOME LEOPARDS [ CALL THEM CUR OR HOUND I DONT CARE ] AROUND HERE THAT CAN DO WHAT THE WALKERS CAN DO [ AND SOMETIMES OUTDO ] SO BE CAREFULL HOW YOU WORD THINGS. THESE LEOPARDS OF TODAY HAVE ONE THING GOING FOR THEM THAT SOME HOUNDS [ NOT ALL ] DONT HAVE AND THAT IS BRAINS. BEFORE YOU START DOWNIN ALL CURS [LEOPARD OR MT. ] YOU MIGHT OUGHT TO HUNT WITH A FEW BEFORE YOU MAKE YOUR MIND UP ABOUT THEM. I SAID THE SAME THING YEARS BACK UNTIL I STARTED HUNTIN WITH SOME GOOD BRED LEOPARDS, AND SO FAR I LIKE WHAT I SEE. ALL I AM SAYIN IS DONT KNOCK THEM TILL YOU TRY THEM , AND KEEP A OPEN MIND . PLEASE DONT BE BREED BLIND, COLOR BLIND, OR KENNEL BLIND. I HOPE I DONT OFFEND YALL JUST MY OPINION IS ALL. GOD BLESS YALL.

it ended up being walker with like 850+ lep cur with 200+ ol walker put it on her. But I've seen a mt cur that could put it on my walker on a bad night when he hits a cold track that little mt cur will hit a hot one and see it.not knocking the curs at all. Not my type of dog. I have a carolina cur that's an alright squiral dog. Hunt him every day stays in the house with me too.
