Just wanted to see what you guys have to say....This is what I have run into...it seems like the coon clubs that are in my area don't want to hear about change or the opinions of the younger generation or not even that...just change. Such as, times of the year that the hunts are held or hunting different kennel clubs other than just UKC. There are numerous hunters calling for change but I just wanted to hear what some other fellow coon hunter would like to say or if they have the same problem(s) at their clubs.

The character of the people that make up the club will be the number one factor in attendance. If crooks and cheats are there don't be supprised when you struggle to keep a club running.

If the members are freindly and treat everyone the same when a problem arrises that club will have good attendance.

Alos certain MOH's drive alot of people away. It seems to me that just about any ol crook can be a MOH even convicted criminals.

sometimes you run into the 'old guard' that resist any changes or new ideas. not sure what the answer is, but if no one will step up during elections to replace them, then dont complain about not changing....good luck.

The problem is when there has been new guys elected the older guys never want to here new ideas so they always vote against whatever the matter may be, and 90% of these guys want even hunt in the events, and there is that one person who may dicktate what goes on in a club! That leads to the elected offical to give up or just quit! Sometimes I guess the only answer is just to get the fellow hunters in the area together and start a new club! This idea has been VERY succesfull! It is just ashame that it has to come to this!!

I guess its hard for the founders of clubs to see others try to change things. Many are set in their ways and do not like change. Its hard to get them to understand we are in a new age and younger members can bring a lot of new ideas and take the clubs to the next level or get them up to date.
Some clubs have elected to proceed forward and now if your a member, your kept up to date with emails, but some just haven't made it that far.
As far as other kennel clubs, some clubs do hunt more then just UKC and some do not, but anything you can do to make your club better should be looked into.
Club participation is also a key factor on how a club will last. I read a thread about having to drive a long way from the club to hunt. I my self would hate to drive 2 hrs to a club and have to drive another 2 just to hunt. Clubs should have members willing to guide cast to make sure that this doesn't happen.
When we have our Buddy Hunts, we've never had to send cast hours down the road. Some have asked to guide back to their spots that are 45min away and we all way ask if that's fine with everyone before we draw casts.
A good friend has wrote about our hunts in American Cooner several times and tells how our hunt is like they were years ago. Friends and family getting together to fellowship and have a good time. We pride ourselves in that!
Some of the clubs all across this great country need to remember what this is all about before their clubs are gone.

I won't have a problem with someone hunting my spots after me guiding a cast but one time because I promise you and who ever I catch hunting my spots that I will get out of jail before they get out of the hospital. I am not a violent person but I pay alot of money and work hard to have good spots to hunt and good spots to guide to and anyone who wants to hunt with me is welcome but if they decide to go to one of my spots without me then they have crossed over the line and got on the fighting side of me.

That is one problem! The local guys want go guide for the club because that seems to be the only time they are heard, or listen to is when the clubs need something!!! It seems they shut there ears when someone speaks of any change or new ideas!! Or the MOH, or the dicktater at the club will put down the ideas because maybe it was not his ideas!!????

Their is a lot of responsibility that falls on a MOH and he's the one that takes the blame on a lot of things. When we looked at turning our buddy hunt into a comp hunt, the first one I looked at was ACHA . A club doesn't have to have a MOH, just a panel. The responsibility rest with 3 or 4 not 1.
Doing a UKC hunt wasn't a option for us. Those of us that set down and talked about doing a comp didn't want to take nothing away from the established local clubs. We researched and made sure that our hunts do not fall when one of the local clubs have theirs.
When it comes down to what we are doing, I wouldn't call us a club in a since. 4 of us share the responsibility, no president, no vice president and so on. My store offers this hunt to you as a service and all you have to do is show up, we handle the rest.

I agree with a lot of you its either you have a bunch of older members thats afraid of change or you have a bunch of cheaters who cant put wins on dogs if someones in there that won't let it happen theres a club in our area that if you go to a event thats the only time you. Ever see certain people at that event and that tells me something right there because the other clubs in our area are within an hour of this club and you never see theses guys at the other clubs

Tell me what some of these great changes are that will turn the local clubs around. Low attendance has been a growing problem for a lot of clubs. I have some ideas as to why this is but I'd like to hear about some of these changes that will help.

I would start with getting rid of the cheaters that back the cheaters that would be great start on changing a club I know a lot of guys that would rather stay home and hunt with friends then to go to a club. And get cheated that would be a good start
