I have a young wipeout pup I have been hunting this past month. 9 month old female, she goes the opposite way of the old dog really doesn't care much what the other dogs are doing. When I get to the tree if she followed sometimes she does, sometimes she doesn't. If I knock out the coon she goes ape s***. I mess with her some throw her the coon let her chew on it a bit. I drag a track for 50 to 100 yards down the holler rub the coon up and down a tree and hang him up with rope. The problem is when I cut her loose she runs around smells every tree in the vicinity included the one the coon is in but never puts her nose on the ground to trail. She will tree great with some coaxing. Am I jumping the gun expecting more? She seems to be winding and not trailing at all. Any suggestions? I will mention also that I turned a cage coon loose at dusk and she did this same thing.

It isn't coon season here anymore! LOL I try to only drop a few a month and lil ones during this time of year don't wanna deplete the population. But I'll try that dragging it farther. I haven't seen the first kitten here. Treed 4 boars that I knocked out in the last month and a half.

Some pups will not run with other dogs. this is good. I think you are moving too fast. Let me suggest that you get your self a coon and put him in a round cage. Then get an old dog that will bark at the coon in the cage. Do this with him until he will find and bark at this coon inn a tree. After this drive around until you see a live coon cross the road put on the track and see if he will tree it. Always remember to make it easy to do what you want your dog to do and make it hard to do what he wants to do as you train him. Hopes this helps. Rex

thanks rex. I have been trying to find her a hot coon crossing the road only everytime I get her in the box I don't see one. Then I take her back to the house an wham a coon crosses the road afterwards. Just My Luck I reckon

Martin, we usely trap a coon and use them in a roll cage until the dog knows what you are interested in and will bark at in a tree. After this we turn the coon aloose and let dog trail it up a tree. We try to turn loose so the coon doesn't have a lot of trees to climb. Use your head, be smarter than the dog. Put a cord on the coon about 30 t0 50 foot long and you can use more than once. Coon s are not hard to trap an they eat about anthing. I usely trap in town because they get use to the human smell. I like to turn loose a coon with a pup at least three times. Put yourself in the digs place and good luck. Hope this helps. Rex
