Has anyone on here replaced their GPS collars? I bought 3 new replacement collars and switched everything over.I got one collar that won't Double blink at all,1 that beeps erratically and 1 that only works a part of the time.Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like you have a bad connection to the GPS antenna.

I ruined two perfecly good collars putting them on dayglow. I'm sure it was my fault and something I did wrong. The tiny wire that runs from the battery pack to the GPS antenna is extremely fragile. $330.00 lesson learned. Besides, my two replacements are still under warranty and switching to the dayglows voids the warranty.

I'm afraid that that is what I have done.I bought 3 dayglo collars and it wasn't easy pullin' that wire thru the same hole that the antennae goes thru.At least now I know that I'm not the only one learning a hard lesson.Thanks.

Kenny, all I know is I called Garmin before I changed mine and they said "no way" when I ask if I would still get warranty on them. I did it anyway and soon after was ordering two new collars. I have somehow learned to live with those sorry Garmin straps.

I know alot of guys have changed to dayglow with no problems so I'm sure I did it wrong when I changed mine.

I changed Garmin to a heavy duty nylon collar. I used some electrical heat shrink tubing plus some wraps of insulating electrcial tape to protect that wire. Its held up for several months now but what a pain in the rear to change out.

I've got a Wildlife collar I used for over 10 years and never had to change the collar on it....

Jim, it probably depends on who you get on the phone. I haven't changed mine yet and I doubt I will after reading this post. I did have one start killing the battery even when it was turned off. I switched the battery and it did the same thing. In the process of putting the original battery back in I broke the on/off switch off the circuit board. A $160 lesson for me.

Changed one of mine to a dayglo collar and i must of cut that little wire.Was getting over a mile range and now not even getting half that.

So just last week I replaced my old collar with a day glo. That collar now has poor range. I was careful to not pull on any wires when I changed it out, but.... The collar knows where it is, but is not communicating well with my handheld unit. Doesn't the larger stiff collar send the signal to the handheld? or is it the small wire that goes to the little square thingy that sends signal to handheld? For those of us who have goofed this up, do they have a replacement "little square thingy with wire attached"? Any thoughts on this?

I bought a new collar from garmin and they went ahead and changed mine to a dayglow. Not a single problem with it. Got 1.6 miles on it last time I pit it on a dog. I plan on placeing it on a fence and driving away to see just how far I pick it up and which of my two I get better reception with.

Im truly sorry I even attemted to mess with them new collars.I got one of 'em to start double blinkin' the other night,so I put it on my female and it was working ok until they got into the swamp and treed in knee-deep water.After that,all I got was a question mark.If I were you,I'd send your collar bac to Garmin and let them replace it.I did all 3 of mine at once & wished I'd never messed with 'em.

You have to be very careful when changing the collars over. I bought some very small needle nose pliers to do it with and haven't had any trouble. If you have changed your collars out and have damaged the wire, I can get a replacement. The DC-30 VHF replacement comes on a new Garmin collar and cost around $60.00

My guess is that if you have the supplier do the switch you would prolly be ok, do it yourself apparently has a much lower success rate.
I have learned to live with the Garmin strap just fine. I don't like it but I get along with it. I bought the DC30 collars as soon as they came out and all of mine and my buddies are still in very good shape.
I took the risk of changing to dayglo, paid a heavy price and won't try it again.

He took a knife and cut the threads on the collar to open the collar up and used his fingers to take the wire out. He told me when the collar gets stiff, it is real easy to break the wire trying to pull it back out. He said on a newer collar, one could probably do it, but was not worth the chance. To the one that was having moisture problems, I noticed that he was real careful putting the rubber gasket back in place. I purchased one, but have not installed it yet.

I have switched over at least 20 to dayglo collars for other people and my own. It is tedious but you have to be very careful with the plug on the GPS antenna. We have a local guy make them for us. When I change them over I cut the nylon collar down the seam on the side of the nylon. I cut it with a utility knife behind the GPS black box to get started then run a philips screwdriver down the edge to make sure the wire is away from the knife. It is slow and tedious but have not ruined one yet. You also need to take care when attaching the plug back into the collar. I generally pull the rubber back off of it and clamp a set of needle nose to them to line it up properly so I will not break any of the tabs. Again this is very tedious and takes a steady hand those tabs can break very easily and you will not make a good connection. Best I can tell you is slow and steady and take every precaution you can not to cut the wire or break the connector. Good point above about an older nylon collar they are more of a pain and take me more time to switch over due to them being so stiff.

Are you guys grounding yourselves out when messing with the electronics? I have to change out electronic locks from time to time and before we pull the back cover off you have to wear a grounding bracelet otherwise it is very easy to discharge static to the electronic components inside. Just a thought.

So far (knock on my head) I haven't had any problems with mine that I changed out. I've been using them a few months now. With that being said I may go out tonight and they will not work a lick! But you do have to take your time. And I did wear surgeons gloves when handling the wires.

I bought two day-glo collars at SETWD's from Stone Creek Supply. When I went to pull the wire through the nylon collar it didn't want to pull through so I just took a box cutter and cut the nylon collar and was able to get the wire out fine. Mine have worked fine ever since.
