Combination trophy

I was having lunch with a man who used to be a serious coon hunter and is now leaning more towards fox/deer/coyote trials. He was telling me how much more fun they were but yet more "traditional" and "ceremonial". Some of the things they do used to be done in the UKC but are no longer practiced due to whatever reasons. However one of the things they do is give a "combination" trophy out at their ceremonies. This trophy goes to a hound that places in the bench show and in the hunt. Since the hounds in the UKC have become so segregated I think it would be a good idea to reward the "dual purpose" hound with something special. I know the "dual" bench show class exists but.....
Anyway it is just a thought. I am gonna take a harder look at these hunts. It might be a nice change of pace for a while to get back to "tradition". You are now free to fire away.

That is a good thought...

We went to a club last year that gave a trophy for the over-all winning dog for all events for the day...It included the water race, field trial, show and hunt winner. The unexpected over-all awards are always a nice surprise!

So, what your thinking is a real nice idea for the folks with dual purpose hunt/show hounds. It could possibly promote more folks to show their hunting hounds and vice versa. More entries either way is more money for the club.

I know with the economy the way it is that a lot of clubs have cut back on trophies... I also know that there are a group of people who could care less about trophies, however I also know a bunch of men, women, and YOUTH who really enjoy the trophies. The man I was talking has every trophy ever won by his dogs and has them seperated by dogs. His current dogs are a nite champion and a young dog with some places. Neither of them have a single trophy given out by the clubs. The fox/deer/coyote people hold a ceremony at the end of each event and present trophies in an official manner even if it is just a small event. It sure would be nice to see the coon hunting world get back to a little more tradition.
