If your not scared to be in woods by yourself walk a half mile or more in woods sit down at the bottom of a big tree and wait him out. Sooner or later he will range out. If he learns he can range out and find a coon to run he will do it automatic when you cast him in after a few times. stay close as you can without interfearing with him so you can get to the tree quickly when he tree's. good luck.

p.s. late summer corn feilds are great training tools if you have some you can hunt.

Don't turn caged coons loose to him in the daytime. He's 18 monthes old go out work him up on the coon turn the coon loose give it 5 mins cut him loose let him track and tree it. I have an 10 month old pup he's running and treeing by himself but he won't with other dog not trying to sound mean I seen an awesome dog ruined by caged coons in the daylight. The guy turned 50 caged coons to him in the daylight never hunted him at night or turned caged to him at night try that. I'm doing it with my pup tonight but I'm gonna give it 30 mins let him work a colder one a lot of the kitten coons that were first born are out now down my way

Game of trust....

Its a game of trust. The dog will learn that you are going to show up when he trees and that you are in the woods with him. He will become confident in himself with a little time, and learn to trust you. Keep your cool, every dog is different and mature at different ages.

I know it is tough in the beginning, I've been there. For me my dog started going out and treeing at about 10 months, not consistently though....When he was just over a year coyotes met him at a tree one night. By the time I got to him he was covered in blood....not his own though. Surprisingly after this, the dog started hunting better, almost like he gained confidence standing his ground with the yotes. My guess is that this is why he was reluctant to go far.

Keep all things in mind, the dog is a lot smarter than you think.

Drive up, let dog out of box, get in truck and listen to radio or what ever but ignore dog. It will start going further and further when it doesn't have you for company..............
I thought it was crazy but it works pretty well................
