My husband has finally decided to allow me to hunt in the hunts. What do ya'll think about women hunting in the hunts. I'm a little nervous that the men aren't going to receive me well. Any opinions please?!?!

there are a few in the hunts around here.. my fiance will be doing it soon as well she says. just make sure you know the rules before entering. they will pull things on any one they think they can. and they may see a woman as maybe a weakness(not that, that is true). show them right off your not.
also beat their a$$ right off the bat and you will have them in shock in a hurry .

The only problem I have with a woman hunting or spectating is when I have to pee.

i love compition hunting! one thing to remember about rules, DO NOT let your spectator try to help you, some of the guys will to to mess u over, and ALWAYS remember that ALL cast member MUST wait for the slowest cast member, it comes in handy.

make sure you know the rules!

my wife has hunted and shown since she met me i think she calls our dogs better tha me lol i get to fast to call when we competiotion hunt for fun ill call treed and shell tell me honey not yet lol shes the best i got pics of her climbin trees to see the coon youd never guess meetin her she looks like a model and she puts my buddys in there place all the time in the woods shes only been doin this for 3 years and is a addict

I love to hunt, and I have comp hunted a little. I also turkey, deer and hog hunt. The best advice I have for you is hold you own! Dont let them intimidate you! Have fun im sure you will love it!

I've been comp. hunting for about 5 years now, and was only 15 when I started. So I was definitely green! lol...Just know your rules, do your homework with your dog and you'll be just fine! I'd say in all the casts I've ever been on, I can only remember two or three times when a guy would mention something about being a woman. No big deal, comes with the territory. Learn to overlook it and have fun!

I hunted for about 35 to 40 years of my Life. Always
Redbones. Compitition hunted about 7 or 8 hunts.
I was treated no different than anyone else. I even
finished 3rd place Redbone Days Lexington NC in the 80's.
3rd place Del St hunt. 3rd place up in the mtns. of Pa..
If my brother would of been hunting those hunts would of been much better, because he was not hesitant to call Mary faster then I did LOL.

I don't comp hunt much because I'm old and slow, but enjoy it most of the time when I do--usually senior casts. An honest coonhunter who calls them as she sees them is always welcome. If you need help, don't be afraid to ask for it.
Slick handlers won't care if you're female, so be prepared to speak up like anyone else. If you hunt a coondog, you will win your fare share. And keep a sense of humor about the guys that will cheat every which way to win. Doesn't have much to do with gender.
I do recommend that you pee before entering the woods, because its harder for you to get enough privacy in the woods if you're female. Also, think twice about who you ride alone in a truck with. Never had real trouble, but a guy that withdraws his dog and wants to go home may not be a gentleman about stranding you in the woods. If you aren't sure of the rules, ask, and someone will show you on the scorecard.
If you aren't afraid of the dark, you'll have fun.

I am a young woman in my mid-twenties. I have experienced many different things while in the hunts (and I have only been in a handful).

I have been "helped" along (this area has some pretty rough terrain at times).

I have been left behind.

I have been cheated (as I think MOST people have, at some point, so get used to that ).

I have been given the preference to.

From one end of the spectrum to the other, it has happened. All I can say is: be confident. KNOW THE RULES and don't be bashful in speaking your mind if something is not going as you think it should.

I, personally, do not go to a nite hunt without a spectator. Boyfriend/husband or trusted male friend is good with me. That is only because I was raised very aware that some men are not trustworthy and I don't want to take the chance of being out in the middle of the woods with a strange man. Those statements might be offensive to some people, but that is just how I feel. Always be safe!

And have fun! You will very likely get a win taken out from under you at some point, and it will be very frustrating. Expect it to happen at some point. It happens to most folks, male or female. Don't let it discourage you!

If you keep your composure, but put up a good fight, you will gain a lot of respect. There are many men (mostly the older, less proud ones lol) who know and compliment my little female and I when they see us at the bench shows and nite hunts. It feels good to be known as an honest houndswoman.

At least you dont have to duck under limb's lol. Like they said study the rules before hand and you should do good and there should not be any problem with the judge not hearing you strike and tree your dog LOL.

Jerry, I know that I have some great teachers to make sure I know the rules. I've very happy that I know several of you that would gladly help me out. As far as being able to walk under the limbs...well there is a disadvantage....remember my hair is very long....so it tends to get caught a lot.

Always keep your hair at least in a pony tail, I had a girlfriend
years ago that hunted with me every night and one of the first
nights she got her hair tangled in a bunch of picker bushes. Had
a terrible mess and she wouldn't let me cut her loose with my
knife.

My wife tried to walk across a beaver dam and fell through, her feet got wet. It has been said it was my fault ( LOL ). The last time she went with me was 7 yrs ago. She was pregnant with our last child. We walked a young dog around a corn field, looking for a coon ( no luck ). She has not went since.

I'm 31 yrs old and this is my 9th yr coon hunting. I have hunted in UKC, PKC & AKC. I have done some winning in all three reg. I started at the bottom and everyone pretty much wanted to help me in there own way. Most of the guys told me I couldn't win with a B&T. LOL now there buying pups off of me!! But I didn't get to that point alone. I have some great guy friends that really know hounds and how to handle a dog. We would go hunting like a cast and they would drill me and try to pull anything on me they could. There were times when I would get mad, but it made me a better handler, and I really learned the rules. Honestly they hardest part is weeding out the guys that really just want to be friends with you from they ones that want a wife that coonhunts LOL. You will learn something new from every cast and if something happens that your not sure it was scored right go home and look it up in the rules. Don't just assume the way someone else judged it was right. If you know you are right don't be afraid to call for a vote and ? a rulling if need be. Good luck!

I have competition hunted since 1981(not many women hunting back then). I did a lot of winning in the larger hunts. In the beginning, most of the guys in my casts were sweet, because they didn't see me as a threat, that all changed after the first couple of trees. As long as your able to keep up and do well, you will gain the respect of most of the men. Some guys just can't stand getting the butt kicked by a women...LOL

i been competition hunting since i was 8 and now im almost 17. i got my boyfriend into coonhuntin over the summer back b4 we started dating and he started to think he was better than me at everything... callin the dogs while we were pleasure hunting and bragging of how good of a shot he was. well i took cutters sister mutt out with cutter and they sound almost identical but mutts just a little bit coarser. he struck n treed mutt haha! n i told him b4 we started the difference but nooo he thinks hes better than me n dont need advice. haha. well hes gittin a lil bit better now . and he shot a coon a good bit of times, idk if he was tryin to burn it out or what one nite, but i sent him back to the house to get more shells, and here i am with a dead light, in coyote country, on a ridge in bfe while he gits some more shells. he comes back and i tell him flip on the light! i done the ole one shot one kill method. pissd him off. he stayed pissd for a few days lol. but ya, anyway, SOME men are gonna put ya down, but not all, later on u will gain the respect.
