Big Game Hound ?

I know all breeds have there good/bad ones .But i'd like to hear everyones opinion of which breed has the most track and tree instinct at an early age. Bottom line is what dogs get it done on big game for all of you and how are they bred thanks Tim

walker dogs

i think walkers are the best dogs that start early and have great tree instinck. but all dogs are very capable of doing the same they just need to be hunted.. throwin some english into a walker gives them some outstandin noses that ive seen.. everyone has there own breed i just perfer walkers over them all. i have plotts but they r your more hot nosed dog with great speed grit stamina.

Depends on where you hunt, your dog limit, the thick cover or open country. And how much you like vet bills. Plotts are good, I use to run them, plenty of vet bills, that I felt was ridiculous, spent as much time on the chain healing as huntingl. But they get the job done. I like walkers, nose, speed, voice, tree, the right lines, grit to get it done. Blue's are few here, to thick, hard to find a good blue without a splash of plott in them. Then a nice dog. In wi we can only run six dogs total. LOL

run to catch hounds

They are walkers that go back to Nance and Bawlie young starting great noses, fast, and will stay on a mean bear. Tod Aultman in MI owns the Run to catch kennels.

Best Dogs

I have hunted many different breeds Walker, b@T,Redbone,English, Plott, mountian Cur, but I must say for Western NC I find the Bluetick to be the most consistant of the Breeds. I currently have JBS Chief Smokey River , And Cameron Blueticks. From the young started to the finished hound they are hard to beat.

These dogs have the nose to trail up and jump a bear track as good as any dogs I've ever saw and when its jumped they will run it so hard that it has to climb or something bc it can't stand the kind of pressure it gets and around here that's what it takes to kill bears. You have to have a trail dog to jump them bc around here you don't find many red hot tracks and if you can't jump them you can't kill them

Bonnie

Shot

Lee

here is a few pictures of some of the bear pack. I am waiting on the bonnie dog to come in heat so i can make one of the crosses that we have been working to make for years. She will be bred to Lee just as soon as she comes in and those pups should make some hounds that have everything we are looking for. Nose speed and stay power are some things that both of these dogs have as good as anything we have and I hope the pups have the same.

Let me jump in and say Plott hounds. They are a blend of Swampland and Bear Pen breeding. They have the nose, speed, grit, and tree to stay on any bear. The are murder on hogs.

Post the pedigree of these pups? At five months old all of the pups I've ever had were too young, mentally and physically to handle the aggressiveness and speed of a bear. Maybe I've been hunting the wrong strain all these years.

dog made at least 10 complete races this season
and my other dog in previous post was over 15 complete thease dogs ran many other runs some they stared not to make and other they were put in on the race to get it finished..
