Depends if the dog just falls treed on a turkey or if it runs a track then has a turkey up the tree.

Another simple question "Are they coon-turkey dogs?".

Like I said it depends if the dog ran a track to the tree with the turkey up it or just fell treed on it.

If there is no nests or holes then yes you could be scratched. I'm a firm believer that some dogs tree by sight. If a turkey is all that is up the tree then obviously the dog is treeing it.

Turkey in a tree is NOT considered off game per the Advisor no matter what.

If it were bayed on the ground such as livestock turkey then yes, but Todd has ruled that a turkey in a tree is not considered off game.

I seemed to remember something on here about this and I do remember reading how a dog is not scratched for a turkey in the tree, luckally I have never had this happen. Also I have never seen a turkey stay up in a tree that a dog or a light was under.

according to advisor tree with turkey is not minus/scratch

i dont agree, if you can plus a layup with a coon then you should be able to minus/scratch a tree happy dog with an obvious turkey and no coon or hole!!! there's nothing complicated or confusing about what happened!!!

Maybe, but the logic used in the advisor was that the turkey flew into the tree so it is not off game.

That's UKC's official interpretation.

I hear this second hand but a cast treed on a den with no coon seen and 3 turkeys in the tree last weekend . I think there was a big discusion at the club house. My thoughts when I hear about it was if a turkey is off game they would be minus or scratched. If it isn't off game it would be circle. I didn't hear enough about it to know if they trailed in or just fell treed like a lay up. Of course there could have been scent on the ground from scratching around before they went up for the night, also may have been a coon in the hole but the way I've hear it you have to score what you see.

Dale, here is the way it is scored.

Dogs declared struck and treed. A turkey is up the tree and there is no hole and no coon, you ignore the fact that there is a turkey up the tree.

The tree would be sccored as a slick tree.

Now say the tree was a den, again you would ignore the turkey but the dog would be circled due to the hole. Hope this helps, I don't quite agree with it but that's the way it is.

This is hilarious! Between this thread and the possum rescue society thread, I know that a good laugh is never too far away!
