First Time With Garmin

Ok tryed my garmin out for the first time tonight, not too impressed but may be doing something wrong. The entire night no matter which way I held it, kept saying hold level, at around 600 yards I would lose communication with dog, it would give me distance, but nothing else. My GPS signal could only get two bars, guess it could have been a bad place? Even when I hooked the magnetic antenna up it still only got two bars of GPS signal, but I think this antenna just helps find the collar not the sattelites? I just checked and everything I have has the lattest software.

I have had mine going on 2 weeks now and have had no problems, Using it on my beagle and cooner, I am taking a guess here but most problems are operator error, or wrong setup, and so on. Read the instructions and then read them again.

Love mine, shows alot of good info keep messing with it. It takes awile but the more you use the easier it gets, and the more you will understand. It's possible your in low sattilite erea but there is a button you can check for sattilite signal. good luck.

yea u need to check your satelite signal i always have at least 4 if not 5 everywhere i go. get at least a mile out of small antenna and 4 with magnetic antenna. use it and you will love it, save a lot of walking.

I've had mine for about 2 weeks now and i have lost range twice. As soon as i top the hill it picked up right away. I have always had 4 or 5 bars on satelite but seems the stock antenea is good for a mile around here and i have not tried the long range yet. But I'll tell you what, this thing has saved me 2 times from the dogs heading str8 into houses and also cut my time down on retrieving my dogs . So hopefully it will save some unhappy people in the area i hunt in and i can jump in the truck and run around by road instead of taking a half hour to get to them... I have not changed my setting yet or tried anything else, but i'm happy with mine aswell..Curt

I have a Garmin Nuvi GPS in my truck, the charger for that will fit my garmin astro, was wondering if I can run off of this with regular batteries in it to perserve them without harm?

I've had mine for 3 weeks and I like it alot even though I have had some trouble with mine losing signal also. The other night it lost signal at 460 yards.Didn't pick back up until I drove around the road to the dogs and turned it off and then back on.I see alot where the problem in most cases is "operator error" and very well could be, but I have read the directions and I always turn on the collar and 220 in the truck, give them plenty of time to hookup, clear my tracks, calibrate the compass, and start a new hunt. Do certain collar #'s pick up better than others low #'s better than high#'s?? Thanks

#s

well it depends on what part of the country you live in,as to whether you want high #s or low #s,ill be honest i bought my garmin about 3 months ago an i hated it always losing signal,i listen to everyone on here that swears you must use lows numbers,i was about to junk it,then i called garmin support, told them what was happening, the tech talked to me in english that i could understand, step by step, went through updates an reset my collars in the high 30 an 40s,ill be honest, ive fallen in love with this thing,it works almost flawless,my suggestion to you is call garmin support an talk to them instead of taking advice on here, sure convenced me,they will treat you great
