Got a dog that when he is walking around he is shaking his head and holding it down to one side. I believe it may be something with his left ear. I don't see no spots on it but it I put some pressure on it he acts like it hurts. Anybody got any ideas? or should i just call the vet. thanks

Ear mites cause dogs to to shake their heads and scratch at their ears but another thing that can cause the same symptoms is a yeast/fungal infection in the ears. I took my Redbone to the vet because he was doing the same thing but I could not see any signs of mites (black spots in the ear). They said he had a very mild fungal infection and gave me some medicine for it. Funny thing was, they said his ears were very clean. Sometimes hounds get water in their ears and it starts an infection. Just something else to consider..

had a dog get into a fight and when blood would drain in his ear he would almost turn his head plum upside down, so yours might have some drainage. just a thought.

Cpould be ear mites.

I had a dog get a wheat seed in it's ear and it died.

naw not straw bedding. something definately not right with him though, he's in the house just sitting there not even moving around. and he want lay down his side just holding his head up all the time. looks like his best friend is gone.

my vet told me that 1 dog out of 10 will get ear mites. just clean dogs ears out regular helps a lot with ear problems.

the dog has an ear infection. check with your vet. some of the best stuff you can get through the vet is called
momentimax. it's an ear cleaner with antibiotics in it. If he is acting that lethargic, it's probably not mites. If you keep waiting and guessing the infection will get worse and you could have a major problem on your hands. Take him quickly to the vet and get it checked and taken care of.

I had one get a seed head off some hay down in her ear. Had to take her to the vet to get it pulled out, wasn't coming out on it's own, because the barbs on it kept it from backing out. She did just what your hound is doing.

Never heard of using it on dogs ears, but it works wonders on me for "SKEETERS" in the summer time.

took him to vet appears that on his ear he does not have a hole going to his ear canal you can feel the ear canal coming up to ear but vet cant find no hole he has had trouble with a growth coming up on that side and had to get it cut out twice and she thinks that hole may have shut then or may have never had one. so wasnt much she could do, just got to keep watching it and see how it goes. she said as long as he keeps eating and stuff to just watch him and see how it turns out.
