Bear Hound Training in Georgia

Is anyone aware of the recent citations I have been hearing about, where the National Forest Service has been writing tickets in North Georgia for training your bear hounds on NFS lands? I was always under the impression that we could legally train our hounds from August 15th to June 1st each year. This was per the Georgia DNR. I have spoken to a couple folks from the Georgia DNR and they are still under the impression we can continue to train our dogs on NFS lands. I have asked the NFS for calification and will keep everyone posted. Has anyone else heard of this?

I spoke to Chuck Waters of the Georgia DNR, and have left a message with John Bowers on this issue. I hope they have the forsight to leave all the tools in the toolbox, and not outlaw training in counties that dont have a kill season. There is the potential for a win/win here for both the state and the houndsmen of Georgia. I will be contacting my representative and senators.....I hope you all do the same....

Bear Hound Training - Georgia

Georgia houndsmen and women, it is urgent that you contact your elected officials to let them know that SB 474 cannot pass. This bill will make it illegal to train bear hounds in any county that has no kill season for hounds. This would make 90% of Georgia off limits to training bear hounds. Lets not let what happened to the deer hound folks, happen to us. SB 474 must fail. Let all your fellow bear hound enthusiasts know as well.....Lets keep bear hound training as a viable option in North Georgia, and keep Georgia dollars in Georgia!!!!

Folks...SB 474 passed in the Georgia Senate. We have to now stop it in the House. Please contact your Georgia representatives and tell them to vote AGAINST SB 474. If this passes, we will lose another part of our hunting heritage......Please help...
