Have the World hunt in late October or November?

I think this would be a good Ideal. Think about it no leaves. To me that means the dog has to show you a coon or a den. Look at all of the dogs who squeeze by with circle. Alot of these cast would have probably been minused out. This would eliminate alot of "there could be a coon up there".
What do you all think?

First of all, yous guys, need to realize why it is held that early. They won't bring it down South, and run it in February or ...... It has to be "UP NORTH" where they can find a club big enough, and then it has to be early in the season so the SNOW doesn't effect the outcome. Oh yeah and the leaves HAVE GOT TO BE "ON THE TREES!!!! j/k TCB

If you are there you will know that those hunts aren't being won by slick treeing dogs or circle points. A dog has to tree coons that are seen to win at the world. I think everyone would like to see those hunts take place with the leaves off but apparently they can't get it scheduled that way or they would. But I believe you take away the leaves and the same dogs come to the top. Those dogs in the final weekend are coondogs and they don't need leaves to cover for them.

I agree ,JIM

Circles do not win but with the leaves on then circle points are allowed where if leaves were not on it might be minus points instead of circle. But I do agree that in the final week those hounds still in the running are Coonhounds and more than likely if there were no leaves the plus points would be higher than ever and then some folks would have plenty to pitch about such as cheating, crooked judges, special guides and no telling what else instead of to many leaves.

Whats a special Guide Pappy???????

Is that a guide that has access to a "coonpen" that takes a casts into that pen and allows them to tree coon and then they score 1700 and someone raises a question, and that someone is a whiner????? This is a special guide and it is a problem and if your too blind to see it then I'm sorry. Its bad when you are in a casts and your doing great and the guide says hey ......"You might have a chance if Ralph didn't guide tonite". Then You find out Ralph guided and he was a Guides Guide.....Yeah right!

TCB, I agree it happens especially at big hunts like Autumn Oaks, Winter Classic, Walker Days etc..

Doesn't work the same way in the world hunt though.
If you win you're cast, you advance, high score doesn't really matter much, so special guides just aren't an issue.
I've been there a couple of times, those dogs are just plain good.

Do you guys hink there would have been different winners in the years past if the hunt was with the leaves off? I'm sure I don't have the answer but I doubt the winners would be any different. What you all think?

There's no way to know for sure if no leaves ould have changed any outcomes of the past, but it would make a lot of us have more respect for the outcomes of the future.

Accuracy is one of the traits I respect most in coon dogs. A world hunt when the leaves were off would promote that quality more.

Why not get really crazy and have the world hunt in January or February?

Slick trees that get circled don't get you too far in UKC, especially if someone else has a dog that trees coons while your dog is treeing trees. With leaves off, more dogs might get minused, but more dogs are going to get plussed, too.

It ain't no secret that there are already big hunts and little hunts being held with leaves off. The Winter ClassiC and the Grand American come to mind. There are also alot of small hunts between Oct. 1 and May 1st. So if you have an accurate dog then you'll have plenty of time for him to shine.

Good point, John D. In a UKC hunt. a dog has to show you a coon to get plus points.

A lot of pleasure hunters fuss about competition dogs...and I'm a pleasure hunter. But I think if you have a top pleasure hound, you can win a lot of hunts.

The dog that wins the world hunt might not be my favorite style of coon dog, but I imagine he is going to be a coon dog or he wouldn't win at that level.

I went last year and it was a great hunt, the only complaint I had was they have way to many roads. I hunted in the same place Sackett JR was run over. I asked the guide how far to the next road and he said oh its a long ways at least a 1/4 mile!!!
They dont need a giant club to put this hunt on they only hunt 100 dogs thats 25 judges and guides.

I was not directing this towards the slck treeing dogs only. I also think more coons will be seen and also the better dog will always win the cast. Well more than likely.

Not really, in fact sometimes in January I think I should have my head examined for living up here. It is possible to tree coons up here then, but...

I know people get tired of Indiana, but in general, I think it has some of the nicest coonhunting around. If I'm ever lucky enough to go to the world hunt finals, I hope they are in Indiana that year.

A few weeks later in the year sure would be nice. I'm not worried about the leaves, it's just cooler then & would just be more comfortable weather to hunt in.

World Hunt in the Winter

This subject has been talked of so many times, and yes I also think that it would be more hard for a dog to become World Champion being hunted in a time when no leaves remain on trees. Here is the thing we sure would find that more breed of dogs slick tree other than the Walkers meaning ............WHAT A MESS WE WOULD HAVE.......The hunt may have to be continued before a dog could be crowned..................

OUCH!!!!!!!! Sometimes the truth hurts huh, John. I just wish some of the bigger hunts weren't stacked up before Thanksgiving. I coach football (peewee) and its hard enough to get away to turn them loose. There ain't a chance of going to a hunt up the road a piece during that period for me. Oh well,,,,,,one of these days maybe I'll have the heat and they'll be able to go with someone else. We shall see.............TCB
